So theres this weird whining noise coming from the back side of the motor. i have the 6 bolt swap and here are a couple a questions i have. i really dont post much bc i normally can fix things on my own but i kinda need help with this one. My rear motor mount is completely and utterly shot. i mean it is ugly. but i put it on anyways. i have this high screetching whining noise coming from somewhere around the tranny-clutch or something. its really bad when deaccerlating while in gear. in neautral nothing at all. but i know one of the ears are broken off where the tranny bolts to the block but i bought the car 50 000 miles ago like that and it has neevr been an issue. I can crank my car up, get out, and push back on the motor and the whining completely stops!? what you guys think? i know there are some experts in here and your advice would be greatly appreciated. i think i might start out getting the prothane mounts installed!?

i would definitely install a new motor mount 1st, if the one you have is in as bad of shape as you say. but that shouldn't cause the squeling noise you are hearing. are you sure the noise is coming from somewhere in the visinity of the transaxle?? if so then i might have a suggestion. i had a jeep once that did the same thing you describe. the trans squealed just like a belt squealing when i decelerated, and only then. it was a bearing failure inside the trans housing on that. if you can push on the motor, therefore putting pressure on the trans and it will stop or at least partially stop i would say it is very likely its the same thing as what i just said.

i would fix the motor mount first. check all the rest as well. if you're already gonna swap that one with a polyurethane then swap the rest if you can. then you might take a stethoscope with the car running and stick one end to the spot the noise is coming from and the other on your ears, you know. that will at least narrow down the approximate area the squealing is coming from. if it is a bearing failure inside the trans housing it will have to be split to be fixed. hope that helps. good luck.

i kinda have a feeling its a throw out bearing myself. and it even squeals sitting still sometimes and deaccelerating, I cant shift hard at all though bc my motor mounts are bad. ill start by replacing all the mounts with prothanes then if its still whining its gotta be the throw out bearing. How hard is it to replace the bearing? Thanks a alot you guys

Yes It does sound like a throw out bearing, had mine go out in my little ranger a few years back. But then again it could be the mount as well. enough slack in it to make it scrape continuously causing the whining noise.

exactly what i was thinking.......i honestly think it may just be that my motor mounts are terrible. my tranny shifts smooth as can be and the clutch is new. it makes no sense that i can get out of my car and push my motor back and the squealing stops. i hope its just the mounts. taking care of that asap!
