can anybody help me out with info on how to remove valve guides wth out damage to head. would realy help. :( do i just hit them with a wood block or do they have to be pressed out ?

Don't know if it'll help any but when removing the guides from my old hatch (b16) I had to heat up the head before I could pull out the guides. Don't remember exactly what temperatures, but maybe this can help point you in the right direction. And don't hit then with a wood block!! LOL, I'm still looking for a "detailed" process if I find one I'll post it for you

thanx. i just started thinking that. i could buy all performance head parts for about the same price as a slowboy stocker. but can't get dam guides out.

Okay, read a little bit more, can't find any DSM specific pages, but can find some about valve guide removal. They say that they can't be pressed out, that they hammer them out, but once the guides are removed you should not use them again, still haven't found a detailed process to guide you through it, but they say they hammer them out. They suggest taking it to a shop to get it done. There's also a tool I guess that can remove valve guides the "correct way" Premium Valve Guide Removal/Fitment Tool [Z90022] | Royal Enfield Parts and Accessories Hope this helps out

Don't quote me for sure on the removal tool, don't know for sure if it will work on our cars or not, can't find anything specific, damn internet! You think you could find anything on this thing, haha, still looking though for any detailed process, dunno if I'll be able to find anything, I couldn't even find anything on vfaq nor DSM Tuners, whats the world coming to, haha! Still looking >.@

Found something you might want to check out on DSM Source, don't know if it will help or not, since my IP was banned from DSM Source for some reason, don't know LOL. Maybe cause I'm in Germany, discriminating bastards! :(! Anyway, the link to the forum is Valve guide seals coming loose - DSMsource.com Forums one more to double check General DSM Tech and Tuning [Archive] - Page 58 - DSMsource.com Forums don't know if either have any useful information since I can't check them myself, but might be a lead!

In order to remove guides , you need to core drill them, take a drill bit and carfully drill about 3/4 the guide length just shy of the head surface, like 1/16 of the iron guide edge would be left, so the side walls of the guide can collapse alittle since thell be so thin. Be sure not to hit the head during the drilling prosess. they have bit you can pick up with a guide pin at the end of the bit the keep your drill shot true, (Hence core drilling) Dont drill all the way threw as you will need that last 1/4" of your guide to catch with a punch. then take a punch the same size of the hole you drilled take a air chizel/hammer and run them out, dont use a regular hammer you will stress the head to much possably cracking it

^^^ 100% correct, I have removed and installed many of these some you have to drill other's(other heads) remove easily. But drill the walls then air chisel/punch them out. Good luck putting the keepers back on, it's pretty fun.
