Ok, I'm having a perplexing problem. 95 w/91 Turbo swap, 70K miles. Mild mods. Car idles like crap...nothing new. Once I get going, it runs fine...until I get a cutout. Basically what'll happen is that you can be cruising for a while and then cylinder #1 cuts out. I know it's #1 because while it was idling, I took out the #1 plug wire and it didn't change the idle. Now, once I bring the car down to idle, even if it's idling bad, I can start moving again and it will leave. Car will run fine while accelerating, but start cruising and the problem will come back. I noticed that it comes on faster if I get into boost or higher RPMs, or if I don't let the car warm up. I can also push the clutch in, turn the car off, turn the car back on, and let the clutch out while moving and it goes away, but only for a short while if I'm on the highway.

I read on DSMTalk of someone else that had the same problem. His solution was crankwalk through, because the crank was moving around and chewed up the crank angle sensor. But my 91 motor's crank sensor is built into the CAM sensor, right?

I've replaced plugs, wires, and coils (new plugs and wires, used working coil). Any other ideas? I'm saving to do the CAS.

If you need to know it, my compression is 122/110/122/122 (bad rings on #2, can hear air seeping out of oil cap).

Any solutions to this would be great. I would like to eventually get over 15 miles to the gallon and actually use the public highway. Thanks.

Chris.

Thats weird. Probably eliminated the spark problem possibility. I wonder if that cylinder is even getting fuel like its suppose to. Thats pretty interesting. Id take a wack at the fuel system. Check fuel pressure, a sticking or failed injector, a leaky or obstructed fuel line, and so one. Troubleshooting and isolating components is the key to finding crazy ass problems like that. Good luck with that wacky ass problemo.

I'm having the same problem with my 95/90 6 bolt swaped car, it does close to the same thing but mine changes cylinders "every" time it does it. It's always hessitating when cruising too.
When you loose the cylinder, limp it to a stop (leave the car running) and take the connector off the injector you are are having the problem with and check the harnes to see if you are getting power to it, that will narrow your problem down some more. They sell injector harness "testing lights" at autoparts stores. When mine goes into that crappy limp mode I lose power to one injector, therefore losing a cylinder. I turn the car off and back on and it goes away for a while but it always comes back.
I was told it could be a bad CAS. I'll check to see if that fixes my problem and post back on the thread below.
I has more info if you need it:
