Hey all, I searched the whole google and tuners and havent got me cleared. So, Im starting a thread to hope someone can help me with my problem. I just finished doing an engine swap in my 98gst. The engine I just installed happens to be an engine that came off a 95eagle talon tsi awd. Mechanic had the awd flaywheel replaced with fwd, bolted tranny and motor with no fittment issues. After that, came to a disalignment of starter b/c and one bolt didn't line up for my starter. The motor i bought didnt come with starter, so we replaced with the one that came off 98gst. Does it have anything to do with starter plate? If does, which one should i use? I'm putting an awd motor into fwd. Please Help!

Doesn't matter what 4G63 you put in your car - they're all the same.

The transmission and flywheel are the only things that differ. if you have a FWD flywheel, a FWD Starter, and an FWD Transmission it should bolt up. The starter only connects to the transmission. as long as you're using a 4G63 it doesn't matter what car the motor came out of.

The 1g 6bolt bellhousing cover and the 2g 7bolt bellhousing cover are slightly different. If your using a 1g bellhousing cover on a 6 bolt motor with a 2g trans, one of the starter bolts will be slightly off. The cover I am refering to is the one that bolts to the block behind your clutch(spacerplate). The misalighnment is with the cover. You need to use the one that matches your trans.

Ok, how about we read the original post.

he only swapped THE MOTOR. so why would the bell housing change? he's still using the same FWD trans. Both motors are 7 bolts.

It should just rotate into place. If you're using your 98 tranny and 98 starter... stuff that bolted together before.. you shouldn't have an issue. try rotating it into place and make sure you're doing it correctly.

the engine has NO effect on which starter you need to use.

Your right, the motor has NO effect on it, BUT, 1g trans and 2g trans have different bellhousings! So the spacerplates are just slightly different! I know this because I have both plates and one of the starter mounting bolt holes is slightly off from eachother.

If you have a 1g trans, use the 1g spacerplate. If you have a 2g trans, use the 2g spacerplate. The problem is when you mix them.

The OP, sounds like your using the awd spacerplate that came with the motor, RIGHT??? if so then you need to remove the trans, clutch and flywheel and replace it with the one that you originally jad with the car.

where can i order the starter plater for both 1st and 2nd gens. I called all over local auto part shops, they dont carry them.

I called JNZ today, and told them about the issue. They can order the plates, but wait time is next week tuesday. But, they also told me i could just drill a hole to bolt the starter on it, and they done that before with no problem. I guess i will go with this way. We will try to put the motor and tranny back on tomorrow, and will let you guys know the result. Hopefully will bring a good news! Thank you all for the concern! God Bless You!

szl98gst, yes you can just drill open the hole a bit. I should have said something about that lastnight just from lookin at them. Let us know how it works for you.

Ok, drilled a hole and bolted starter on without any problems. Car starts up as the key turned over. Problem solved! When i put the radiator on, i made a leack on it, anyone knows what to use to stop radiator leaks? Its just a small leak.
