Ok, so i bought a 92 awd turbo laser yesterday. It has good compression, but he said its got a bad ring. Anyway it sputters and barely moves. I drove it today and my girl was behind me and told me that it was shooting flames out of the exhaust and i could smell the gas. It has a new regualtor and rail. Good injectors. What should i do? Im goin nuts already. Thanks.

my buddys 92 used to throw intermittent flames during acceleration when he put in 660cc injects in his stock car. check if the guy you baught it from was trying to do some "quick uipgrades" and add big injects ### he got tired of fuel ut.

a bad piston ring should throw WHITE/GRAY smoke. but it may still run fine.
sounds like you are over fueling or have a really bad miss firing

This guy didnt do any upgrades, not even an intake. Car is completely stock, with only 74000 miles on it. I can tell he tried to fix the fuel problem because of the fuel rail. He said he first started having problems when he tried to adjust the idle on the car. Either way its dumping wayyy 2 much fuel wich is causing the misfire. How do i stop it from dumping all that fuel in there?

Is the regulator stock? If not, has it been adjusted? Do you know if the spark plugs are good? Have you changed the spark plug wires?

Edit: Btw, this should be combined with your other posting by a mod as it's virtually the same thread...

Pressure regualator is stock but new. Plug wires are new. Im got new plugs but i dont want to put them in yet because theyll just get fouled out. It takes the car like 4seconds at idle to rev up to 6grand. Of course when driving it it wants to go nowhere. Boost takes a while before it gets where it has to. Also at idle it fluctuates from 0 to -10 but only on the aftermarket guage. Not on the stock. On the stock the vacuum seems good, but on the faze its not right. It will stay at 0 for a while then go to -15 for a while. It doesnt bounce around or nothing. Im just so confused.

you could have some bad boost leak somewhere and not even know. you vacuum lines could be out of whack as well. also, when my fuel pressure regulator was starting to act up, my boost guage wouldn't move until like 30seconds after i started the car. then it would just pop down to about -18psi vac. that could be where your erratic gauge readings come from
(assuming you have your boost gauge vacuum T from your fuel pressure regulator vac line)

If the car is stock then don't buy an SAFC like someone mentioned. You want to actually fix the problem, not band-aid it. Oh and another thing, make sure that guage is correct and don't rely on the stocker.

Ok, i think i was lied 2 about the compression test. I changed the coil, wires, and plugs and then realized that when i had the plug wires out for 1 and 2 it didnt affect the way the car was running. pull 3 or 4 out and the car wanted to die. So in other words the car is running on just pistons 3 and 4 wich would explain why im running so rich and the car bein so slow. Now what?

Swapped the coils, I can unplug the the wires out of 1 and 2 and nothing happens. I think it needs rings or a head gasket.

Are you getting spark from the coil wires that go to the cylinders that aren't firing? I'm suspecting coil issues, ignitor (power transistor), or the wiring to it from the ECU and from teh ignitor to the coils. If there's no spark on the wires for 1&2 like you said, hold on brain acitivity.. you said 3 and 4 were fine but 1 and 2 aren't working.

The wires for 1&4 are on the same coil and 2 & 3 should be on the same coil.. HAve you checked that yet? Sounds like that could be it right there

are you sure you checked your firing order.... i would hate to see you sell your car for something that could possibly be minor
