My car has been running good But last night I went to go get some food and my car started acting up. At first I would come to a stop and the rpms would drop almost all the way but not stall after a couple minutes when ever I came to a stop it stalled. When I am giving it gas it drives fine. Im driving a 96 GS

some dsm's that I know run 200-300rpms at stop lights because who knows why. but if you have the blow off dump tube off or leaking somewhere it will run in a mixture that the ecu doesn't know about and run funny. like rick between shift (you might not notice) or lean at idle that may be enough to make it stall. Check for boost and vacuum leaks to see where that takes you. let us know what you find.

He has a GS (aka non-turbo).

YOu might need to clean out your throttle body. Also check your battery connections, I know that sometimes if the connections come loose it will drop idle like you are experiencing.

How would clean out my TB?
and someone told me this -
Sounds like your fuel system. Dump a bottle of fuel system cleaner into your tank and replace the fuel filter.

does that sound like that could be right?

are there any other symptoms... strong odors, smoke, MPG - , HP -?
cleaning the fuel system with additives wouldnt hurt. cleaning your TB is easy... just remove your intake... spray cleaner and wipe with a rag. make sure your not shooting any codes for CEL.
maybe its your cat, clogging up. could be lots of stuff.

no odors or smoke car is running good and getting good mpg check engine light is not on and I just had a newer cat put on a few weeks ago and 2 days ago I passed CA Smog test with flying colors

Try taking your car to an autozone or pepboys and ask if they can check your electrical system cause you might need a new alternator also.

if you plan on modding this car get some gauges in the future because they really help diagnose these things. find a multimeter and check your voltage, battery, and alternator. low voltage lowers idle because of the fuel injectors and the pump. it may also be the IAC (idle air control). replacing it might help. you can also turn the 'idle knob' (biss screw) by very little and see if that helps

I charged my battery for a few hours today. Turned my car on and let it run for a few minutes and it wasnt stalling but when I try to drive it around the block it will stall when im slowing down or when im stopped. the TB looks clean, and the battery connections look good too. what could be causing this?

Well, if it runs fine with a freshly charged battery, and after a few minutes of running it worsens, then it sounds like your alternator isn't charging your battery very well. You should go get it tested at your local parts store. If it is your alternator then you are probably running on borrowed time right now since it seems to be barely charging the battery still. When it dies your car will run off of your battery for a little bit, and when your battery dies your car stops and you are stranded. It would save you a crappy experience of being stranded if you just tested it.

Maybe this is something you want to try http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art.../226323-2-minute-alternator-circuit-test.html
