I have a 92 tsi I am new to dsm's. I just had my ecm diagnosed and repaired by ecmtogo. The starter solenoid just clicks and the fuel pump does nothing. if i use the test terminal for the new fuel pump it works but will not with the key. someone please help it's driving me nuts thnx:coy:

Luckily replacing a starter in a DSM is incredibly easy and takes 45 mins max. You can easily reach everything on the back there. Take it in and get it tested first to make sure it's actually the starter or solenoid because dude is right; a lot of times it's a loose connection in the battery area. I'd say check your battery first and if it's good then yank the starter and bring it to Napa or wherever for testing.

...I wouldn't say it's the easiest thing to replace....I think I still have the scractches and bruises from the one I replaced a few weeks back. I would deffinitly check the battery, and all of the wires leading to the starter before pulling it out. I had to replace the neg line as it was pretty corroded.

As far as the clicking on the starter, I had a similar issue where mine did that a couple times...
Getting a fresh battery helped a bit. So did cleaning the wires, but in the end I had it rebuilt ,but even then it never really worked "great". The last time it just died, and was killing all of my ignition fuses....not fun.....I replaced it with one of the remaned ones over at napa I forget the brand, goldstar or something like that....and this starter cranks great.

Testing was one thing that I got different results on. Over at autozone the test failed but they couldn't get a starter for a couple days since it was the weekend. When I went to the napa place, it passed. I was pretty skeptical so I just replaced it as they had one in stock.
