Bunch Of Problems!! Need Electrical And Mechanical Help Please!

okay...to start i have a 95 Eclipse GS and have made the worst choice in buying this car. I have many issues..with no where to go and no clue what the problems are...NEED HELP

Problem #1- My car does not hold a charge overnight....

I can drive my car all day and have none of my extra electronics hooked up, but when I try to start my car in the morning the next morning, my battery is totally dead. Have tested alternator- good and changed the coil pack. This is a serious issue, and need help asap. Could it be a bad ECU?

Problem #2- My car's fan only goes on when the headlights on...

My a/c fan works all the time- right. My cooling fan only goes on when i turn my headlight switch to on. I can turn it to running/day lights and the fan will stop working. I took it to my mechanic and wired a switch to it, but I still think this may also cause problem 1 to be an issue. I need help with the overheating problem-- also school recommended a new fan motor, so got that-- still didn't fix problem. There is a serious wiring issue with my car!!!

Problem #3- My engine keeps running after I turn ignition off and take key out.

Remember, this is a 95 eclipse gs- no turbo, no nothing and it acts like it has a turbo timer on it. I can turn the ignition off, take my key out and get out of my car before the engine will shut off. While the engine is still running, all my inside gauges and lights and electronics are off. Then my engine will sputter and turn off. This is a concerning issue seeing as i will be driving my car many places( long distances).

Problem #4- Transmission/Clutch Issue

Going at fast speeds(55 mph +) and i step on the gas, my car pops out of 5th gear and will just rev. Would this be an indication for a broken clutch disc? Also when i let the car idle I hear this noise like something is rolling around in the transmission- i go and put the clutch in and it goes away. Need help with this issue!


THIS CAR WAS A SERIOUS MISTAKE TO BUY AND NOW AM FORCED WITH IT RUNNING ME BANKRUPT! PLEASE HELP WITH WHATEVER ADVICE POSSIBLE. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN A PROJECT CAR- PLEASE LET ME KNOW! WILL SELL CHEAP!

It sounds like you have an electrical draw somewhere. If your ignition and cooling systems are having electrical issues that's definitely a good place to start. Your tranny just sounds like it has a worn syncro. Just hold it in gear until you can get a new tranny, get it fixed, or even better; get rid of the car.

IMHO a non-turbo DSM is a horrible proposition because you get all of the DSM problems and none of the turbocharged power that makes owning one bearable. I'd recommend taking it to a shop because fixing shit yourself especially if you're relatively new to the game can definitely lead to unecessary (sp?) expenditures and possibly more problems resulting from trying to do it yourself. yes - open it up and check for leaking capacitors.

Had the same no charge car kept running problem on my car. Turned out to be a crappy fuel pump rewire and a stuck relay.

Problem 1: Get a new battery or check connections.

Problem 2: Maybe the previous owner wired the headlight switch to the fans for improved cooling when it was needed.

Cant help with 3 and 4.


What I would recommend if you just got the car:

Tuneup, oilchange, tranny fluid, plugs, put some lucas in the gas and oil

If its overheating, flush the radiator, new thermostat and tubes.


Seems like you got a whole bunch of problems that are holding you back. Dont give up.
