Ok so i put a new motor in my car, everything is hooked up i try to start it and all the starter does is click. With the old motor it would fire up and everything ran fine. I charged the battery, put a new starter in the car, checked all the grounds and it still clicks. I searched all over and i find similar problem but no solution. If anybody knows what this problem is please let me know. My car has been sitting and i cant figure this out. I also cleaned all of the terminals and the connections are tight. I can also turn the motor over by hand.

What motor is in it ? I do not know if the starters mount differently between the 1g and 2g ? Just a thought .

all fueses are getting power and its a 2g 7 bolt, should , ill try to disconnect the alternator to see if it stops ticking and hopefully crank

If the coal contacts are worn out, then starter gearwheel might not get thrown out, therefore starter keeps spinning but it has no connection to flywheel. I had this problem with my 89' Galant which was based on a 4g63 as well.

Try to listen more carefully, if you hear click and then VERY QUIET buzzing sound, then I bet that it's the gearwheel that is not engaged with flywheel.

Sorry for my bad English :D

check the voltage at the starter you might have a bad ground or a corroded wire , if voltage is low then that might be it

i have this same problem and it really pisses me off....everything on my car is rebuilt and i even has a new starter and this still happens....but if i turn over the engine about a half of a time it will finially engage and start up just fine.....if anyone has any solutions to this problem it would make me happy as helllllll :)

1. Make sure the ground is sandwich between you transmission and starter.
2. Check the black/yellow line that goes to starter is hooked up.
3. Check if you have full battery charge

...
Is the door closed all the way when you're trying to start it?

Has nothing to do with anything.

To Second OP, your saying that if you turn the flywheel 180 degrees and then try to start the car it starts fine? If thats the case make sure your starter is properly engaging the teeth of the flywheel. Make sure all the teeth on the starter and flywheel are good. Report back.

Exact same problem. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a wiring/voltage issue but not sure exactly what to do.

i have had starter problems the entire time ive had my talon which is goin on four years now and up until recently i never could find a solution but i ran a ground wire from my battery to each bolt for the starter i would of just used one but to make sure it didnt get offcentered i used one on each bolt
