Hello everyone, I'm a new member here I have a Black 97 GST. I have been looking on this site for a few years now though. But I have a problem I can't figure out and I have searched and have found nothing really exactly like my problem from what I have seen it may be a boost leak or something or my BOV being vented (Apexi dual chamber bov) (you can't recirc the Apexi to my knowledge if someone knows how please let me know!). I have a 97 GST. After I give it a "decent amount of gas" I'd say about 70-75% throttle or more when I let off and either push in the clutch and hold it in or shift it into neutral the engine will cut off 7 out of 10 times and i have to restart it or put it back in gear and let it restart its self and other times the RPMs will drop and almost cut off but will bounce back up and stay running. It starts, accelerates and idles fine.

Performance Mods are: hard intercooler pipes, Apexi dual chanber BOV, irridum plugs, 9.3mm wires, 3" Apexi N1 exaust from header back, short shifter, turbo timer, Intake, I'm forgetting stuff but thats good enough.

Thanks for your help in advance!
Steve

I think I may have ACCIDENTLY figured something out just now. Maybe you guys can help me out from here. I went out and cleaned my air filter just now and made sure all the hose clamps were tight on my intercooler piping put the intake back in and took it for a spin around the block. The car didn't die one time! But it was spuddering I was like WHAT THE? I got it home into the garage and reved it a few times spuddered at first then was fine after about 2,500 then i thought OOPS I didnt plug the MAF sensor back in. What would cause it to not die with it unplugged but it does when it is plugged in?

#1. Two options. Replace the BoV with a unit that is able to be recirculated. or. Keep the BoV, but vent correctly, using a MAFT setup.

#2. Do a boost leak test. I think you are going to find you have a very large leak somewhere.

what is the MAFT setup? does anyone have a link? Why would it die with it plugged in but not die when it isn't? Maybe the MAF needs cleaned?

That is why they made the SEARCH button on the upper bar for. Just search for MAF-T, proper venting, blow thru, vent bov...any of those will work.

+1 for boost leak test!

Well I'm planning on selling it, so I don't want to throw a bunch of money into it to just turn around and sell it. I just wish I could make it so it doesn't die after you get on it. The 1g BOV doesn't have the same flange as Greddy correct? I would rather just buy a BOV that I can recirculate before I put 500 or so dollars into the MAFT setup. Its not that I want to vent my BOV its that I have to.

i would say put stock bov back on and reserculate it just to see if that is the problem, i vented my bov for 1 min and the car would stall and idel terribly therefor im not doing it. Also was ## MAF plugged in the entire time?

I don't have the stock BOV anymore. I was thinking about just buying one of those cheap ones on ebay I know i have heard they aren't great but I'm just going to sell it anyways and i could get a lot more out of my Apexi BOV if I sold it on ebay. I just don't want to sell it with it cutting off like it is.

dont buy some junk because you could end up where you are now. Just get the 1G or HKS ssqv and reserculate it get the kit or some other BOV that you can reserculate.

I'm not going to spend a bunch of money though. I was just going to get one off ebay that can be recirculated and that should solve my problem.

You still need to do a boost leak test. I think it's more than the BoV.

I'm not positive on the MAF situation. Unless having it unplugged caused it to run in some sort of open-loop mode, and plugging it back in cauesed the ECU to correctly change the air-ration which possibly caused it to stall. I'll get back to you on this, I'll check it out on my logger a bit later.

I'm thinking that with it unpluged the computer didn't know how much air was going into the engine so when the BOV blew off it didn't know how much air was in there in the first place so it didn't didn't have to compensate for the lost air so therefore if didn't affect it. I have a boost gague and it gets up to 13-14 psi and doesn't drop so I don't think if i have a boost leak that it wouldn't be very big.

I bought a new BOV today that I can recirculate, I'll let you guys know if it fixes it when it arrives.

I forgot to plug my MAF in and car would not even start. Pluged it back in still runs fine so thats not it, i would do like said earlier and boost leak test it

I got my BOV today and recirculated it today and all is well! thanks everyone for your help. Now I can sell it LOL.
