All the lights pulsate

all my lights pulsate when the car is running..i checked all the grounds and cleaned the wiring to the battery terminals but it still wont stop pulsing..the only thing i can think of is either the alternator belt that needs replacing or sumthing with the alternator but the alternator is already putting out enough amps to recharge the system..all the lights pulsate to the motor and pulsates faster as it revs up..if i retard the timing, the pulsation stops and holy crap i've lost my ponies haha! but if i advance the timing it keeps pulsating and i get knock..so if anyone out there might know what might be the problem, please let me know aite..93 Eclipse 2.0 N/T

do you have anything drawing power? subs? anything in your cigarette lighter?

all i have is just a capacitor...i took out the amp and subs ### i didnt really need them weighing down my car...

When this happened to me, it turned out to be the voltage regulator (or maybe field regulator; I can't remember which) on the alternator. The fix was to replace the alternator. On normal alternator tests that an auto parts store or shop might do, the testing equipment might not pick it up, and it may give a false reading that the alternator is functioning fine. If all the wiring is good, the belt is tensioned correctly, and all else looks fine, consider replacing the alternator with one from a decent parts store with a lifetime warranty. That way if it ever goes bad again, you can have it replaced for free.
