Is the belt ran properly? maybe something has gotten into the belt? It is kinda hard to tell from the video what is exactly wrong.

Sounds like Timing Belt dragging HARD on something - Check it closely for damage.

I have...I've looked several times and the belt looks fine doesn't look like it is catching on a single thing..unless its these great aem gears that were on it when i bought it...

Make sure the cam gears are tight...Yes I have seen this happen. Also another thing to look at would be the timing belt tensioner.

The hydraulic tensioner is brand new. And it is tight on the cam gears... i can move the belt at all...I'm ready to start tearing out my hair at this point...

I HAVE heard a whirrrrrrr kinda like that when I first installed a Timing Belt as the new belt initially 'seated" in the Sprocket grooves so you MAY have something when you mentioned your aftermarket AEM Sprockets - ESPECIALLY if you see nothing dragging on the T/Belt - But what about the BS Belt?

The balance shaft belt is tight it has absolutely no play in it at all. At first i thought that maybe that or the marks were off for the BS or the oil pump but I looked at those and they are both on still and the belt for th BS is tight...but I noticed a few minutes ago that after i turn the crank a little ways..i get a bit more slack in the belt on top of the cam gears. I don't know if this is typical or not. but when the car is TDC the belt is tight enough u cant move it or push it down more then an 1/8 of an inch....So I am completely baffled.....o and i let the car idle for about half hour i don't think its the belt setting into place at this point either... Only thing i can really think of now is either the cam gears or the belt wasn't tensioned properly

I bought my 91 laser and did an initial inspection of the car. According to the seller the timing belt had been replaced recently. I noticed after removing the inspection cover that the belt didn't cover the entire width of the cam sprockets. After removal of the timing belt, I discovered that whoever installed the timing belt last had insatalled the tensioner backwards. So....did you happen to install the tensioner pulley backwards?? If so it would allow your belt to rub. This would cause an audible noise and wear of your belt. Now I'm unsure of the composition of your belt but if it's kevlar it may resist wear better than the factory rubber type. It's just a guess and a place to start.

The lip on the tensioner pulley goes towards the the block right?? or is it the other way around?

Well this sucks...i still can't figure this out.. I think I'm just going to replace all the pulleys and my cam gears...and go from there at this point i just want the thing to run....well run right haha

Well for anyone that cares or has been reading or looking at this...I think im just going to rebuild my 2g head and slap it on there...i actually drove the car with it making this noise and after about 20 minutes the noise wasn't as noticeable. But it was still there. But i ended up blowing the front driver side corner of the head gasket out so now i have oil all over in the engine bay. Back to the garage it goes yippee....

Well anyways i was replacing the balance shaft belt again as the teeth got torn off of the brand new one and i wasnt able to spin the balance shaft by hand had to use a ratchet to get it to turn droped my oil pan and there is part of a bearing sitting in the bottom of it so i think i may know where my noise was coming from....ugh... :( i hate the car but i love it...

nah man i checked the thing like 20 times before i started it......kind of messed up if u ask me...but i guess crap happens....

Well the horrible noise is gone after getting rid of the balance shafts. So i guess that is a plus now i just have replace the tstat housing that i managed to crack yippi....haha
