i have a 96 gst and on the passangers side by the relay box there is a round cylinder with a cable running to it that goes to a rectangular block on the fire wall and that cable broke what is it i looked in the haynes manual what is it?

If the cable ran to your throttle body then it was your cruise control. My Avenger had the cruise over there, but I am not sure if the 4G63 had the same lay-out as the 420a.

i was thinking that too but before it broke i couldnt get the rpms up then they went to 3000 and pop then went to 0 and died

Its your cruise system.

That box on the firewall uses a couple pulleys and cables to operate the TB with and without the cruise. If one of those cables snags or snaps between the pedal and the TB, youre going to have a stuck accelerator or no acceleration at all. Very unsafe if it gets stuck in traffic or on the highway and you need to stop.

Yes, the cable on the right is the main throttle cable, not the cruise control cable. Just get a new cable and you'll be good to go.

alright now it snapped between the box on the fire wall and the cylinder do i have to replace the whole cable from the pedal to the throttle body

No, just the cable that runs from the box to the throttle body.
