Regina,
hey i was just wondering what would be the problem if my tranny doesnt go into 1st gear. It goes into every other gear fine but it is impossible to get it into first gear. i believe it could be the synchros but i wont know until i drop the tranny out. im a newb to dsm's so if anyone could give me their opinion that would be great.

Check your shift cables. I've seen this before and it ended up being a shift cable had popped out of the bracket that holds it down.

They attach to the top of the tranny underneath the area arouind your blow off and air can. They are held in with a type of pressure clip that can break or pop out.

I do not think synchros can keep your car from going into gear, but a bent or broken shift fork certainly can. I would go with the cheapest and easiest solution first; new shift cables from another rig. Good luck and let us know.

I checked the forks to see if any were damaged(bent and/or broken) and the looked fine. I'm gonna have to go and check the pressure clips that secure them in place.
I never thought that the shift cables would be impeding the shifter from going into first gear...
