Ok, after all the work getting my car back together, it seems that my ECU went bad during that time.

When you turn the ignition on, the ECU works for about 30 seconds then shuts down. What I mean is, I get power to the CAS harness and the boost guage goes to zero for about 30 seconds then i lose power to the CAS harness and the boost guage loses a signal as well.

I pulled my ECU and one of the CAPS had leaked pretty badly Though it doesn't appear that it ate through any of the components or traces. Just has corrosion where the stuff from the CAP has been on the board.

Has anyone else had these exact same symptoms with CAP leakage? I've been reading and I haven't found any posts that the symptoms were just like mine. I'm basically trying to see if replacing the caps and making sure the board traces are good has repaired ECUs in the past.

If not, are there any long-time DSMtuners members who might have a 90' ECU that they know works laying around they would be willing to give a fellow DSMer a decent price on.

So does anyone think that replacing the CAPS will straighten out this ECU?

-I would say replace the caps and see what happen, it might save you a few bills.

I had an overfueling problem with my car when the ECU was going out on me. I had checked the ECU and found the caps leaking over the board, cleaned up the board and replaced the caps.
This fix lasted about a month until finally the ECU just went out totally. I sent the ECU off and had it repaired. I am still running it today with no problems.
In short I am telling you to just send the ECU to a reputable repair shop and have them thoroughly check the ECU, it will save you alot of pain and money for a towing bill.

Sorry for the long post.

I would do the SASE but I ordered a set of CAPS on the VFAQ page yesterday morning. Oh well.

I've been checking my different options. And its looking like getting mine repaired or finding/buying a new ECU are about all thats out there.

Found a place that had the CAPs locally.
Had them installed.
The pads were really corroded and the solder didn't stick to them well.

My friend is going to try to clean the pads up with some chemical and do it again cuz the new CAPs didn't work :(
