This is my first dsm project so bear with me guys, any help would be greatly appreciated. I just built a fresh engine for my 92 tsi, everything is stock except for the 16g. I started it for the first time last friday and it has an abnoxious squeal. I thought it might be the acc belts so i checked and adjusted them all, didnt stop the sueal. I decide to take off the acc belts 1 by 1 to try and solve it, even with every belt off it still squeals. My next guess was the was the tensioner or idler pulley on the timing belt so i took the timing belt off checked them they both spin freely. I've already swapped out my mls hg for a composite thinking maybe it hadnt sealed properly and was causing my squeal, still didnt help. I've replaced my exhaust man and retorqued it a dozen times hoping it might just be an exhaust leak, but no such luck. The car idles somewhat smooth but wont rev passed 4000 rpm, and misses backfires and bogs down at WOT. I'm not sure if this is a related problem or not I just want to give you guys as much info about it as I can so hopefully you all might be able to help. I'm goin to try to get a sound clip up asap.

I wish it were that easy, but i have it completely tore down to the timing belt and it still squeals. Even without any acc belts or pulleys the noise won't go away. I had a friend tell me tonight that it could be a valve guide, could that be a cause? I tried to post the video but it is on my cell phone and is not the right format or something.

Does it go away when you depress the clutch. If so it's a bad throw out bearing.

No it doesn't. However it is worse at idle and quiets with revs (doesnt stop but quiets down a little), but once you let off the throttle it returns.

Really need a video clip or something. How did the car drive before? Check the turbo for shaft play. Only other thing I can think of is the compressor wheel is hitting the housing.

I'll try to to find a digi cam or something today to get a clip up. I can't say how the car ran before because i bought it with a bad motor for a few bills. The turbo is a brand new EVO III 16G I've checked it for play, it's solid. I know its hard to diagnose a sound via the internet but I really appreciate the help, I'll do my best to get a clip up here shortly.

Yea I feel like and idiot now, I took the exhaust man off again and noticed there was a washer on one of the studs stuck to the head side. I'd say thats why after 2 manifolds and 2 gaskets my leak never sealed, causing the squeal. Sorry but thanks so much for your help 95blackgsturbo I really appreciate it.
