i just bought a 94 eclipse gs with a 16g turbo....it was driving fine for couple of weeks and then idk what happend one day the shifting got really hard...now its so bad that i cant shit into first gear at all when im at a stand still...when im comming to a stop i have to shift into first gear right before the car stops because i cant shift when its at a stop....i have to put it in gear and start the car....another thing, when i put it into reverse, lot of times the gears grind and doesnt go into reverse. the other gears are fine, but not as smooth as they used to be. i showed it to a mechanic and he test drove it and told me its most likely the fork, my clutch is fine....but thats his best guess he cant tell for sure without taking apart the transmission...well anyways it would be great if anyone can help me figure out what the problem is, or what should i change....could it be that its just my gear box fluid or is it really the fork?? and idk if it has anything to do with this problem but my clutch is bypassed!! thanx :dsm:

Well I would say the trans is fine (or was). But something needs looked at in your clutch system. Whether you are out/low of fluid, air in the lines. The fork MAY be slightly bent. Master cylinder may be worn and/or worn clutch pedal assembly.

Anyway Leyman terms at a stop motor running in neutral nothing will prevent the trans from going into first gear except for the clutch not disengaging. So somehow someway you are not getting the force needed to apply to the PP to release the clutch. You can search there are "bandaid" repairs to get you by. Lengthening the slave rod is one. Shimming the fulcrum is another. Welded assembly etc.

But first and foremost. I would check tranny bolts to make sure loose bolts are not putting any slack in the system, and I would look at the shift cables to make sure they are in good shape and adjusted properly. (just 2 quick things to rule out)

ya thats what i thought..the clutch isnt disengaging properly.. but idk its kinda weird when i floor the car and let the turbo spool the shifting gets much smoother for a while after that....anyways thankx for the advice!

just had a recent problem similar to yours. i lost 2nd, 4th & reverse after a couple of weeks of having to shove those gears in. MY problems was the shift cable. do exactly what the the first guy said because his advice in previos threads, along with other owners, REALLY helped me. good luck :thumb:
