Hey guys so i just installed my evo 3 16g and during that i found out i had two stripped stud holes on my head so without a helicoil to get that fixed right away i just slapped the exhuast manifold and turbo back on, being wayyyy too excited about the new turbo. So needless to say now i have a huge exhuast leak. Also, my car is hard to start after work or in the morning. In otherwords after it has sat for long periods of time and completely cooled down. My question is could it be the manifold exhuast leak that is casuing this problem? Beacuse once everything is hot it starts just fine beacuse the manifold expands and mostly seals that gap.

It will turn over continuously for quite some time. Only after several tries at starting it will it sputter and then takes another one or two tries to start. replcaed the spark plugs so spark is good.

would it not be plausible for the exhuast leak to cause this? because nothing has changed besides the new turbo and the exhuast leak... lack of any back pressure maybe??

could be that too i guess. but then wouldn't it always be hard to start?

It depends. Sometimes it will start directly up and others it will be hesitant. I would just stop by any autozone/oreilley/advance auto and get it tested for free. I don't see why an exhaust leak would cause any trouble for the car to start. Right after a short amount of time after a drive, the alternator will have the battery charged enough to start the car. After a long amount of time (i.e. the car sitting and the motor completely cooling off), the battery will loose charge; especially if any of the cells in the battery are low or dead.

Ya that could definitely make sense....... ill get that checked out thanks alot.

good point made about the header/downpipe. me not thinking again. so the battery is good there's lots of power. could it be the engine temp sensor? unless i'm mistaken there is one sensor for the temp gauge and for the the ecu?
