Ok so I upgraded some parts in my car, the turbo, exhaust, fuel pump, injectors, intercooler, etc (see mods list). I hooked everything back up, I have power. I go to start the car and nothing. I can hear the fuel pump running, I had fuel out of the return line off og the fuel rail. I checked all fuses, they are good. I even put in the old ecu thinking it was my new 95 ecu. I did notice the dash lights (I took out the gauge cluster to sand off the orange film) were not coming on. I have the "door open" light on, but when you put the ignition to "on" there are no airbag/cel/batt lights that come on. they never light. Also my windows wont work, but the door locks work fine. PLEASE HELP.

All the car does is start the fuel pump and the electrical stuff. There is no attempt by the car to turn over. Will the car start without the gauge cluster in it? if so, I am going to try it like that because I am not sure if I hooked up all the gauges right.

gauge cluster wont matter, did you do anything electrical besides the fuel pump?

have you checked all the fuses in both boxes? it really sounds like something simple thats just not plugged in. check everything and come back with anything more specific if you can.

Yes, I have checked every fuse under the hood and under my dash. I checked the fuse box power wires to to make sure they are getting power and they are a solid 12v. The fuel pump was really the only thing electrical, and it was a direct replacement, no re-wiring or anything yet, I wanted to make sure the car would start first to see how it ran.

Also sometimes once you try a fresh start after about a minute, u will hear like a fluttering electrical spart for about 3 sec then it stops. It sounds like it is coming from the vacinity of the throttle body. I did have a valve job done on the car with a new head gasket put in also.

Would it help if I hooked up my dsmlink to the car? Or would it not do anything since the car wont turn on.

yes, hook up dsmlink and put your key on "on" and check your DTC (CEL codes).

Check your base fuel pressure and play around with it until you achieve good pressure on startup

check ignition timing

check your global/deadtime settings

check invert CAS if you need to

check boost leaks

check all plugs

basically, check everything you touched and then check it again.

i don't know about the dsm link i don't think it would have any effect as it sounds like your getting no juice to your starter.

take off the little plastic shroud around your key/ steering column and check all the wires coming out of you key switch area (sorry for the lack of terminology) make sure nothing pulled lose when you were messing around with your dash.

Remove the clutch sensor that makes it so you have to have your foot down to start the car, if you search for that i'm sure someone has a thread on it in here. I'm fairly certain you just unplug the wire going to it and it should start without needing the clutch down. had the switch go bad on my rx7 and it acted the same way fuel pump primed and everything but never tried to turn over.

get under your car and make sure your getting juice to your starter if you are and nothings happening then your starter kicked the bucket.

good luck

I agree with endeffect, if the car is not turning over at all, then that means your starter isn't turning over, that could be caused by alot of things.

1. Dead battery
2. Short circuit somewhere
3. Bad Ground
4. Something unplugged
5. Clutch sensor

And many other things, so like endeffect says, take your DVOM and check current at the starter when you turn your key over, if there isn't any then check the clutch trigger, if thats working properly then there is a problem somewhere between the battery and the starter, so dig in there.

Hope this helps.

Well i concentrated on the starter like you said, and i found out that the little plug that goes on top came off. so it now starts, but my windows still do not work and my dash lights (cel, batt, airbag) dont work. Not to mention the shop that did my valve job forgot to put in 2 of the plugs back in the head, which made a HUGE oil mess. thanks everyone for the help. If you have any idea what the window or dash thing is, that would help.

yea everything else should be just interior fuses and chances are they got killed when all the juice trying to go to your starter found other places to go. I don't imagine that you should have any further problems with that now that the starter is hooked up properly. the same shop that messed up your head was probably messing around by your starter and never tightened that thing down, you could have knocked it loose going over a bump and never known it till the next time you tried to turn it on.

If you check your fuses and your dash still isn't working check all your wiring connections in that area just one loose wire or clip might take the whole circuit down.

where ever you took your car to get worked on, i would go elsewhere from now on... stupid mistakes like that can get dangerous in a big hurry.

glad i could be of help with the starter good luck with the rest...:thumb:

Had the same problem and it was a bad ground for me i checked and retightend it several times and then i replaced it and all was fixed.
