Yesterday i took my BOV apart to replace my diaphram(the boot inside) because i was leaking boost out of the little hole in the back of the BOV(quick release think its called). I put it all back together right. Did a boost leak test and it did not leak anymore.

I took it for a test run. I drove it pretty hard and came back home. It ran and blew off fine. The next day i had bad idle surge. I found out the BOV was opening at idle. I tightened the spring to correct that, but the car sounds real weird when i hit boost.

Im pretty sure it is be opening when im driving.

I have it apart again. and everything inside seems in Order.

Whats wrong?

Also if it helps, my turbo is bad, but drivable.

Thank you

If your turbo is bad, there is a good chance that it is making the funny noise.

What kind of noise are you hearing that is out of the ordinary?

Is it a real Greddy or fake? I know there is a post in a deep thread stating they do have different internals. Meaning you couldnt use real Greddy parts in a fake one.

How much boost are you running? You could be over running your BOV spring.

Sorry i didnt fill out my Profile yet.

Turbo is FP BigT28.
Im sure its not the turbo. Its not a high pitched sound. It like a deeper wooooh followed by a weak blow off. LOL dont know how else to describe it but i know its opening while im boosting.

Im running 15psi right now. It starts as soon as i make 1psi boost.

And its a real Greddy. Well im pretty sure. I got it with the car. My internals looked just like other peoples RSs that have pictures of it disassembled.

Right now its vented for Diagnosis purposes.

Again, can anyone help?

Do you have both springs in the blow off valve? I also have a true greddy rs and with both springs in and set at the softest setting I get a little compressor surge when Im grandma drivin so I took out the small spring and it stayed open at idle, kinda like the factory bov does and I didnt get any idle surge. Make sure you didnt split the vacumn line for it when you took it off. And as for the sound I know what your talking about if you vent the oem bov it will leak a ton of boost unless the car is floored. I had my oem bov on while I did some work on the rs and it would shhhhhhhhhh real bad under boost unless the car was floored. So I wanna say for some reason your bov is bleeding boost and therefore there isnt much to blow off when you do close the throttle. I would take it apart again and check everything.

I'm just here to tell you that I have had two RS's do this to me. Turned out they were flat out defective. Just like you explained, mine would not seal correctly and it would leak boost out of the opening like crazy. So bad that I couldn't even hold a single psi during a boost leak test. The RS gave me NOTHING but problems. I hated it

Dave, both springs are in. The vaccum line is the first thing i checked.
Also Dave, where in Pittsburgh do you live? I live in Pittsburgh too. AIM me on Deadmeat111 so we dont trash the thread.

kmoore, mine stays shut under a boost leak test. I dont understand why. I held 20psi for a while today. Before i posted this i saw alot of threads where you recommended the HKS. I might have to start looking for a new one. Id like to stay with greddy because of my Greddy flange piping but what other BOVs have you tried?

The HKS is alittle better, but are you sure the bov is not getting frozen at times? Open some, closed the others? Can everything move freely?

hahaha- yeah, any chance I get I try to stray people away from the RS only because it cost me money and a HUGE head ache. I have had the SSQV for about 6 months now and absolutely LOVE it. It seals great and I can actually do a boost leak test.

That is really weird that you are able to do a boost leak test but not hold boost. To me it sounds like a vacuum issue. Almost like it too much, or it is in vacuum all the time. Weird. But, just a suggestion, but maybe the "shaft" that the diaphram connects to is some how dislogded and causing the diaphram to get stuck open every time it goes into vacuum. Just a thought.

In my opion, if you can, return that piece of crap and get a HKS SSQV. And then you won't have to worry about all this headache. Trust me I had to get a new pipe with a new flange welded on, and also had to re-powder coat it. So I know how you feel
