I don't know if this has been asked so here it goes

I have a 1995 Mitsubishi eclipse rs with the 420A
I bought the car with alleged upgraded cams, exhaust header, and k&n cold air intake already installed. Its had a misfire since i bought it, it has recently got progressively worse. I am re adjusting the timing the car has stock cam gears I cannot figure out how to align the cams because there are two sets of timing marks on the gears. each has two marks 180 degrees across the gear. there is also stamped on each gear the lettering 2.0L front - 609

*Note - the car missed slightly at 2500 rpms horribly at 3500 rpms and mildly at 4500 rpms and and horribly at 5500 rpms - The miss is systematic. so I do not believe it is an electrical problem. Also I scanned it with a snap-on scanner and it pulled the code stating my timing was off by 1 or more teeth.

*I got a little bit off topic- I need to know how to align the cam gears they have two timing marks on each gear

Align the marks pointing at each other and all of them level with the top of the head The manual also says to initially set crank at tdc then back off half a tooth btdc

i know im supposed to align the marks but which two i could align them like four different ways. It has 2 timing marks per cam gear.

I know on the turbo 4g63 motor the cams will be trying to open valves when correctly aligned so you have use the cam holder to keep the marks aligned while you put the belt on so possibly if they are 180 out they wont be trying to open valves and plus if the car was running pretty close to good there is no way they are 180 out unless you spun them without the belt on. Ill look into it more and let you know what I find.

Wih the valve cover off, there should be holes in the cams. Make sure they are facing up at TDC. Also, each gear should have the word "UP" written on them.

this misfire you speak of.....Is it only at part throttle? can the car pull hard at WOT? Does it get worse as the car warms up? has the car actaully died from this? If any or all of that happens. I'd replace the Crank position sensor. I had a miss, but i had all them symptoms and this fixed mine altogether
