1G wierd noise starting at about 3800 rpms PLEASE HELP

hey everyone, i have a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD and i have this wierd grinding noise starting at 3800 rpms and goes all the way till i shift to the next gear. i dont think its my motor because i just put a new one in. it does it in every gear including neutral. i thought it was just because of an exhaust leak because i had the old 1g manifold and when i put my hand by the turbo i could feel exhaust coming out at idle, so i replaced it with the evo 3 one. but the noise still happens. the balance shafts are removed. if anyone knows what this could be please help me. thank you very much for your time.

i forgot to add that the car runs perfect at idle... and perfect up until 3800 rpms and thats where it starts sounding real bad.

Is it accompanied by a power loss, or anything else?

there isnt really a power loss... but when im in neutral and i rev it up, the turbo doesnt spool because all i hear it the annoying sound and not the blow off valve. but no, theres not really a power loss. thank you for looking

Has the turbo been laggy lately? Check for shaft play.

no unusual shaft play...just the normal minimal side to side. anyone else have any ideas?when i try to listen to it from under the hood i cant really point out where its coming from.
