WHAT UP . MY CAR IS 90 TALON TSI. I'VE CHANGED THE ALT. 6 TIMES IN 2 YEARS. ITS BIN A PAIN IN THE *#@ SOME TIMES IT JUST STOPED WORKING ,ONCE THE BEARING WENT UP AND LEFT ME STRANDED.AND NOW LAST MONTH THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR WENT UP AND IT SURGED. MY VOLTMETER SPIKED AT 20 VOLTS.THE HEAD LIGHTS BLEW OUT, THE WINDOW WIPERS TOOK OFF AT FULL SPEED AND SOME,EVERY LIGHT IN THE CAR GOT SO BRIGHT I COULD HARDLY SEE. AND 2 TOP IT ALL OFF THE BATTERY EXPLODED. ME AND MY CUZZ GOT A SEVERE SULFER POISONING,AND A TRIP TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THIS ALL WENT AT ABOUT A BUCK 20. I GOT THE ALTERNATORS AT AUTOZONE.GOOD THING I GOT THE LIFE TIME WARRANTY FOR 10 BUCKS MORE.IS THE FACT THAT THERE REBUILT PARTS THE PROBLEM? OR SOME THING ELSE.? P.S. THE BATTERY SMELLED LIKE DEATH,I GET ILL JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.

I've been through 2 alternators since the car was brand new and the last one was a junk yard pull. So if you question is there anything wrong with the alternator design on the car I'd say no. If you search you'll see that there does seem to be quite a bit wrong with cheap chain store rebuilds.

your problem is autozone alternators.. they suck.. also, does your powersteering leak at all on them? that will kill them too.. try a mits. alternator.
ps, take your caps lock off and type like you speak english.

The alternators have the logo on them. Also power steering is long gone. The pump went up and i don't live in baltimore anymore were there is 50 pull a part places in a 10 mile area. I've lived KY for two months,and do'nt know where a junkyard is you can enter. The ones here you tell them what you want and they go get it for you. sorry not paying 90$ for used pump.

The fact that your alternator has the emblem only means someone returned an oem core to autozone. I've went through a couple myself from autozone. they only fix what was not working in the alternator and sell it.Since then i go to advance auto and there alternators made by acdelco are called world class. Those are rebuilt as well but all the internals are changed and also comes with a test sheet that gives you the results of that alternator for the same price that autozone sells them for give or take a couple of dollars.I got tired of changing alternators every couple of months. So maybe thats the problem you are having. Hope that helps.

Like others have mentioned, maybe switch your source & also are you still running the lower heat shield? The extra heat from no heat shields can also lead to shorter alternator life.

thanks for the insight . today i found a bolt that fit in the alt. for my grounding kit. hope this works. also i do'nt think it ever had a heat sheild. but i'll make one.
