My car had been having some hesitation issues so I ordered brand new NGK 7's along with Accel 8mm wires. It seemed to help and the car hadn't been driven in a few days. Now today I am just cruising along and I hear a faint clicking sound come from in my dash and my CEL comes on. Before I can even touch my logger to pull the code the CEL dissapears. I pullover and give everything a once over and everything seems fine. I see the breif CEL two or three times while driving. Getting onto the freeway I give it some throttle and as soon as boost gets up it sounds like my car is a machine gun and black smoke is popping out of the exhaust. Everytime I went WOT it would not buck like before, but make a rapid fire POP sound. However, I take the car out later that night to show a friend who was willing to help me trouble shoot and the car runs fine for the 20min that I am out. It pulled all the way to redline for multiples pulls with only slight hesitation. Any ideas?
 
Yeah, I found that out. I should have realized what was going on before when my car was getting knock counts from rolling over train tracks. My knock sensor had nearly completely backed itself out of the block. And behold, it was throwing the code 31 knock sensor CEL. I believe the backfiring was due to my own dumbness as one of the plug wires had started to back off of the distributor without me seeing it. So now all is well in DSM world and I can boost happily :rocks:
