I Got my car back today from the shop with my brand new FMIC installed. I have some problem to diagnose thoe. When i fire the car up it fine but going to drive it is a whole different story. I cant build any boost and when i let offf the thorttle it goes down to about two hundered RPM and just barley hangs one. If i could get any input on this i would really appreshiate it. Thanks:thumb:

I dont know. All of the cuplers seem to be sinched down just fine and they are a silicine so its not like they are cheap ones. I just dont have any idea what my problem could be. But i understand what you mean about the shop not testing.

Have you done a boost leak test? They are SUPER easy to make and very handy! Got any check engine lights? I don't really think leaks in the intercooler core/end tanks would cause those problems. Although I've seen one guy have the weld split down the whole end tank. I'd lean more towards a coupler being loose or a sensor getting disconnected while they were working on it.

Isn't that why you have a shop install stuff? Take it back, tell them they broke it!

As oldman is fond of saying, the install of any part of the intake is not complete until you have done the boost leak test. It doesn't matter if you are using the highest quality couplers with t-bolt clamps all the way through, etc. You have to pressurize the system a little beyond what boost you will be running and use the soapy water technique.

The BLT concept is such a great idea. It's basically a mock trial of going WOT without wasting time/money/fuel and without getting the engine hot so you can keep working on it. :) Whoever came up with it should be given a big freakin metal. :thumb:

I think Chris should make owning a boost leak tester a requirement for joining the forums.:D It's as vital to your tool collection as a basic ratchet set.:thumb:

Yeah, that and a host of other things, such as:

  • A brain
  • Making sure their "Shift" key is in proper working order
  • Factory manual
  • DSM CD manual
  • Necessary tools for compression test
  • Necessary tools for leak down test
  • Logging and reading software/hardware
  • Accurate aftermarket boost gauge
  • etc.
