Hello I am back in the game...I'm buying back my 91 AWD...

As the car sits it does not run.

The previous owner (within the last month/1000 miles) replaced the headgasket, studs, timing belt and all that good stuff.

How he described it was when he was driving it started to die out and then when he reached the red light it died out and would not start. When he tried to start it he heard a noise that he thought was the starter but did not crank he said the accessory belts turned but not the timing belt, he said he belives the cams are locked but I don't know how reliable his word it and how capable of DSM diagnosis he is. He said there were no signs of smoke or smell or any physical apperance of something being wrong so, I am wondering if anyone has any idea of what went wrong and what I am going to be expecting to change. I am already prepared to rebuild the head but I am hoping there is no bottom end damage. I do not have the access to a compression tester or a leakdown test as of right now.

I was also wondering if since I am going to have the head out reguardless should I buy a full gasket kit and replace all of the gaskets http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=18477&cat=1357&page=1and check all of the other essentials and such. Also, do you think that the headgasket, studs and timing belt will all be okay to reuse? Thanks alot in advance

If the accessory belts turned, but not the timing belt, then the belt is bad, and probably damaged some valves.

Get all new gaskets. Do NOT reuse the headgasket. The timing belt is probably at fault, replace it. If you are using head studs, you can reuse them, if they are not damaged. If you are using headbolts, it's best to just replace them.

I suppose that would depend on how much you tried cranking it after it blew. Likely, you only gouged the crown of the pistons. If it is not severe, you can just remove them, deburr, and put them back in.

Usually, new valves and timing components are all that are needed. Though, sometimes worse. Take the head off and inspect. Go from there.

First of all I doubled my post which was in problem diagnosis but i figured this was better suited so mods you can delete that if you'd like

when he tried to crank it over nothing happened, it didnt even try to turn over as he described, so that could have still damaged the pistons?

with no experience in the bottom end of the motor, is it worth to pull the whole motor, and replace gaskets and everything since it would make the tbelt job so much easier, and also it has a very bad oil leak issue with it and im not sure where its coming from.

Pull the motor, freshen it up, it sucks doing it twice on your own car. Half assing a repair tends to get you the part in a autozone comercial.

there could one of many things wrong that would cause it to do that. The only way to tell is to pull the head (you said you were going to replace the head anyways) and to inspect, if it looks fine work you way deeper.

Personally i wouldn't reuse any of the parts you listed. Def not the head gasket, Maybe the headbolts if they are ARP and they were properly torqued, and i would replace the timing belt with a new OEM on just to play it on the safe side. Hope this helps alittle
