My front to back cable on my shifter doesn't have an adjustment like the other cable does. How do you go about adjusting that cable. I know this is a problem because I can't get the car into 1st but if I take the linkage off the shifter and pull just a little farther than what the shifter can move(MAYBE 1 CENTIMETER), it goes into gear just fine. Is there a way I can tighten this?

It's a 94 setup in a 90. From what I know anyway. It worked just fine until I pulled the cables from the transmission when I was doing my clutch.
Thanks in advance.

I've heard 90's had a slightly different shifter assembly. For comparison pics, check out the VFAQ. Maybe the differences have something to do with your problems.

figured it out! the bracket on the tranny is from a 91+ and the top half of it was loose. and was causing issues. So I pulled it as far back as it would go and tightened it down and it shifts perfect now.
