idle air controller... ~$860 fix?

Ok.. well I broke down a couple of weeks ago on a busy street in Sacramento. I thought it was my alternator, but I noticed my car will only shut off when I run hard or fast. So, I just took it to Goodyear for servicing and they said it was my idle air controller unit that is the problem. They say my blow off valve made my computer think otherwise (thats why my engine shuts off). Along with my other problems was fuel injection, and something with intake and exhaust manifold thats needs cleaning.
It's gonna run about $860 ($500 for parts, plus diagnostics, and labor+ tax). My car has been so high maintinience for the past 3 years that I have to sell it because of that and for it's unrealiability.

So....... what's the question? I guess your want to know if you're getting ripped off for repairs that you don't need, or overcharged?... What?
Go somewhere else and get another opinion. Then tell us what they say. Writing stuff like "my blow off valve made my computer think otherwise" doesn't make any sense.
Good luck. I hope the Goodyear place was wrong and it's a cheap repair.

Run hard or fast meaning heavy on the throttle then hit the clutch and bam the engine stalls? If so, then do you have your BOV vented or recirc'd? If it's vented, then there's the problem if you are still using the MAF.

If they are talking about the Idle Speed Control (ISC) then yes you are getting ripped off in a major way! Part costs $225 new from the dealer, or cheaper for a used one. Very simple install that would take the average person a matter of minutes.

If it's something else then disregard.
