so my car wouldnt start the other night, if got extremely cold out, so i figured the battery died. if seemed like it wanted to start but would turn over. took the battery out today, put it on a charger, took a heater and propped it under the hood with some blankets around it( still pretty cold out) thinking maybe a frozen fuel line wanted to warm things up a bit. after charging the battery for a while went back out to hook the it up. tried starting the car, took me awhile to get it but finally it started i tried a few times and kept giving it gas. started up, great. it was running ok, kinda crappy but just thought because it was cold out and havent been started in a few days. after i let it idle for a while i gave it some gas, let it rev up a little and then it idles down and dies out. i did put some heat in the tank, when it wouldnt start a couple days ago, i figured how long i was letting it idle before it would of circulated through. now that i gave it some gas, and stalled out, it wont stay running. just turning the key doesnt start it, i have to give it gas to keep it going and as soon as i stop giving it gas it dies out again. ive held it around 1000 rpms for a few minutes a couple times and still dies out afterwards. i also noticed there was some smoke coming from the exhaust housing and exhaust manifold when the car would actually stay running, and there was a drop of oil coming from in between. i need to give it an oil change for sure, im over on that. i also need to replace the valve cover gasket too. which just came today in the mail. but what i dont understand is that why it wont stay running after i gave it some gas, and not a serious rev either, around 3500 rpms, and the engine was warmed up by then. could there be water in the lines still, but if so why would it stay running before and not now? sorry about the long post, i just wanted to be as specific as possible. if anyone has any ideas please let me know, ive got the car running again!
also what i just thought of, it looked like there was a hot spot on the exhaust manifold too, and my CEL light came on but that was for a o2 sensor after the cat which i replaced with a test pipe a few months ago. if that helps anybody.
thanks again!
