some where in Jersey.., New Jersey
Hello boys/girls...

Okay i have few issue that i need some help with that it's been bugging me for couple days now.

So first thing problem is my lower control arms went bad so i did replace both of them with trw lower control arms, Everything was fine until like end of last week i notice that my steering/gas pedal was shaking alot in 5th gear going 80+.. Could it be my lower control arm again? I know that last time it went bad steering were shaking alot but this time it shake just a little bit but i notice it tho. Only reason why asking if it's lower control arm is because steering didn't shake before [i own this car for about 4 month now and the shaking didnt happen until couple days before thanksgiving weekend]

Second problem is that i drive my car like 70 miles a day to school and back. I check the engine bay oil is forming on valve cover and where the spark plugs sits. What would cause this to happen??

Third 3 days ago i start up the car normal to warm up the car, all of the sudden idle surge from 1500 to 1000 and goes back up to 1500 and 1000 again. I did a little bit of research that it could cause by vacuum leak, bad ecu. But while idle was surging i notice that antifreeze was leaking from lower radiator hose. So could this idle surge caused by air in the radiator system??? Also today for some odd reason 2 of the fan went on the same time [i mean i know both fan goes on when the engine is too hot and need extra fan to cool the engine down but is it normal or my engine is running hot because something is wrong with my radiator system?]

I really want to take it to JNZ or some dsm shop around here but i dont have time due to school. So could somebody help me out??

Thank you in advance.

Im at work so this is going to be short, it could be that you threw a weight of your rims, try getting your tires balanced and as far as the oil by your plug wires, its most likely a bad oil cap. Ill reply more in depth when I get home. Hope this helps for now

My guess is a leaking oil cap. just go get a new one from the dealer or just a new seal for it. after a long time the rubber seal on the oil cap turns to plasitc and will leak. the shaking is most likely an unbalanced tire, or a tire with uneven wear. but it could also be something is still loose from when you did your control arms, but i would guess a tire issue. replace that radiator hose and see if that fixes the problem.

Ok man i had the same problem all you need to do is go to the local hardware store, take your oil cap off your car while your there, go to the o rings and take off the old crusty hard o ring that is on the original. It might be a little tough. Get one that fits but is pretty fat roundwise. That is the oil cap. My friends 92 tsi did that and i helped him with that. Now i had gotten mad oil build up in the spark plug holes. all you have to do is get 2 washers(it is kinda hard to find the right one because you don't want to scratch the paint when tighting so don't rush into buying one, get the washer that fits exactly.). tighten the 2 bolts that are in the middle holes with the washers pretty tight. I was scared when i was tightening them because i didn't want the strip or break anything. the only problem with the washers is that i destryed those little rubber bushing things. o well next time you do something get a valve cover with new ones.the washers cover them up anyways. i think that should solve all problem. no need to mess with outside bolts unless you get leaking with them. if anymore problem just p/m me and i can try to help. you didn't look that hard for info on the 2nd problem though becuz i just quoted this answer

After reading the post that you guys wrote i will replace the oil cap to see if that will solve the oil leaking on valve cover, second the wheel was balanced couple days before thanksgiving weekend. So i will check the balance once again hopefully this weekend if i go back home from school.

What really concern me is that anti-freeze leaking from lower radiator hose that never happen and i really think that its making my engine run hotter. So if i want to replace the radiator hose can i just purchase lower radiator hose for 1g since i have 6bolt swap on my car?

After you had the control arms fixed, did you get an alignment? If no, that could be your problem with the vibration at 80.

Are you sure the i need alignment after lower control arm is replaced? I mean i could be wrong but i dont think it needed to be done, even before lower control arm was going bad my alignment was little bad but after i replaced the lower control arm i was going like 90 mpg back to philly from jersey steering had no problem. It could be my balance/tie rod going bad so hopefully i'll get the outter tie rod replace/check the balance and get the alignment done. I had the balance problem and it could be off by very little bit and it might be the cause of steering shaking very little at 80, about the tie rod going bad i know because bump steer happen when i hit a bump.

Get an alignment check, they're free. Also get your wheels balanced, both of these can cause a vibration. Is it real cold in NJ? When a dsm is first warming up in cold weather, it tends to idle up and down if you have a vacum leak. Your oil cap may be leaking or your dip stick may be popping out. If your pcv is clogged, it creates too much pressure in the crankcase and the easiest place for the air to exit is throught the dipstick (along with oil). I would check your pcv. Your car is too low on antifreeze therefore your fans are trying to cool the small amount of antifreeze left circulating through your system. I would take off the lower hose and double check and make sure your radiator isn't cracked. Buy two gallons of coolant and some distilled water and do a coolant flush whilke you're at it. Check the VFAQ.

I dont know where they alignment check is free but i'm thinking about getting done soon when i get new outter tie rods replaced and the wheel was balanced couple days before thanksgiving weekend but i will double check that. I'm from jersey but going to school in PA and its cold enough past week its been like 30 degrees or below that. Yeah i notice that idle surge happen when it's cold out because since this morning the car was sitting in the garage and i fired it up around 5:00 pm it didn't idle surge at all. Yeah i need to order new oil cap from mitsu dealer hopefully when i go back down in philly. I dont really think that pcv is clogged at all since it's dipstick doesn't pop out, i talk to some ppls so it might be vacuum leak or bad isc. I mean yes the radiator leak small amount and i check/refill the anti-freeze once a week if it need [but i do have like close to half in the reservior]. i think there is very small crack on it due to me hitting bumps and radiator got little loose on the driverside, so it probaly hit the lower radiator support [so once i get time i'm probaly going to the shop to get it welded].

Don't worry about the overflow tank, take the cap off the radiator and fill it up there. Do you have any cv pros or like a goodyear or firestone repair shop? If you also replaced a tie-rod, then I would definitely recommend an alignment.

So if i refill it on overflow tank it wont do anything? I mean i refilled it like last week and before i came up to jersey to check it was at half so i guess it's using the fluid from there also. Around where i live there is a firestone shop but i would never go there since last time i went to the the balance check it was off little bit so i'm really thinking about taking it to dsm shop around where i live since they know what they are doing with dsms. First thing in the morning tommorrow i'm getting reflush the coolant and i really think that hose clamp is loose on the lower radiator hose so while getting coolant reflush im going to install 2 new clamps on the lower radiator hose where it's connected to the lower radiator. About the small crack i could deal with it for now refilling it every once a week but later down the road im going to get it welded when i have some money.

thank you
