Well ive checked everything else possible and narrowed my no start no spark problem to the ECU......and went to buy a new one ...they have one in stock at the local auto parts store but it needs vin programming and mileage programming.....is this programming really needed or can i just buy the new ecu and install it and it will work? If it does need the programming does anyone know where and how much this might cost me? Thanks for any help....

Not to second guess you, but you provided little information. In my line of work "I've checked everything" usually = changed the plugs and swapped a few parts.

Are you sure it is the PCM? If the PCM is not provide a ground to fire the coils, then the signal wires to the PCM at pin 10 and 23 should have battery voltage to them. If they don't the PCM is holding them to ground constantly or it's a bad ignition transistor or power/ground problem.. Does checking everything else include the cam/crank sensors at the PCM?

Here is what the CMP/CNK sensors should look like:

Also never seen it fail, but the ignition switch does send a "start" signal to the PCM, along with all the other power and grounds.

yes checked the cam and crank sensors......and mfi and fuel pump realy....and had it towed to a mechanic and hes had it for about a week and ran tests on everything....hooked up a code reader and no communication....so im pretty sure its the ecu ....also when it died it just died and would not start back up it cranks but nothing happens.....im just wandering if i can buy the ECU from the auto parts store and plug it in and go or if it really does require the mileage and vin programming.
