I just bought my 1990 Talon TSi AWD and was looking at the list of free mods to get a little umph! I read it and it said to remove the restrictor in the boost control solenoid. What does this mean and where is it located? Thanks guys.

The boost restrictor solenoid is located underneath the intake tube. There should be two ports on the solenoid, one will have a small restrictor in it that makes the hole smaller, remove it with a sheet metal screw by twisting it in and pull it out. Good little mod:thumb: I did it on my 97 gst and it felt like it boosted up a little faster. im pretty sure your not supposed to do it if you have a Electronic boost controller but i could be wrong.

You shouldn't make a single modification to your car until you have installed an aftermarket boost gauge. The stock gauge can't tell you how much boost you're really pushing. Get that done, see what psi you're at, THEN start making changes to the system. Not only that, but you should have some sort of logger to make sure that the current boost you're at isn't taxing your fuel system.

And on top of it all, you should be doing a boost leak test before AND after changing anything on the intake tract.

I've seen too many people mess up their cars by throwing parts at it, not starting with the basics, not doing simple maintenance, and not abiding by the factor of safety that we should all be paying attention to. These cars are getting older by the minute, and we have a habit of asking them to do more than they already are. Don't you think it's wise to make sure the car is up to what you're planning? Logger, boost leak tests, maintenance, supporting mods. Then you can start having fun once you're sure it's ready to go.
