Background: My car is a 98 tsi awd with a 6 bolt with 2g pistons, turbonetics 50 trim etc. I accidentally cut the ISC wire that goes to the ECU while using plyers to unplug the ECU plugs so there's no more idle control. I have been using the simulate idle switch feature in dsmlink and it works great.

Problem: Me and my buddy threw some hks 272s in the car on sunday and now the idle doesn't want to stay low. It will be stay at 800-900 for a few seconds and then slowly rise to 1500 ish and stay there. I turned the Biss screw (which is what i always use to set the idle where i want it) and with the biss screw turned all the way in, the car is still doing it.

I checked the timing marks at the cam gears and they line up perfectly so i don't think the timing is off...plus my buddy who did it has done countless timing belts. It also stalled on me a few times while coming to a stop.

Any ideas as to why this is happening? I will get around to soldering the isc wire but it was cut so close to the ecu that it will be a pain so i am saving it for a later time.

I have been driving the car since sunday and it has stalled on me a total of 6 or 7 times. Just now, I drove around and got on it some and then it stalled while coming to a stop about 3 times. I just started it back up and gave it gas for a sec and then the idle shot back up to 1500 ish. And then when i got back to my house and parked, the idle was even higher (around 1700).

I'm not expecting a perfect idle due to no ISC but i just want it to stay around 900-1000 like it did before the cams.

First fix the ISC wire, and that should solve your issue. Your ISC works hand in hand with the BISS screw, if one of them is off its going to cause your idle to be off. Solder the wire and this should fix your problem. You are posting a question when you already know the answer, "my idle is off and my idle speed control is disconnected what do you think the issue is?" =)
If for some reason this issue is still occuring, a rising idle is usually the cause of a intake manifold leak. Have you done a boost leak test? Also check your base timing. I'm not sure how you installed your cams. If you pulled the timing belt off or if you just slipped the cams out and slid the new ones back in. I would check cam position as well as crank position and base timing just to be sure.

The isc wire wil be soldered back in a few weeks, i don't have time to do it now as the wire was cut very close to the ecu and will require some time to get it right...this is my only car and daily driver so it cannot be down.

As i said before, the simulate idle switch using dsmlink has worked just fine for me before the cams so i expect it to work now too. That's really my issue.

The timing belt was completely redone, no "zip tie quick method" was used.

Thanks

When you switch out to a higher end cam you get a rougher idle, you may have been able to idle fine with stock cams, but with the 272's its a different story. Slowly strip some jacket off of the wire and solder it back together, its a pain so just get it out of the way =)

Me and a friend redid the timing today and it was indeed off. The car idles, all is well. :)
