Well i've been blowing oil outta the top of the motor to later find out it was comming from the dipstick. I used plumbers tape to seal the stick in good. About 3 days later(today) i find a massive puddle of oil under my car after it's been sitting in the parking lot of my job. The filter ended up being loose and i tightened it good. Now the car is knocking from what seems to come from the oil pump. My pressure gauge reads under normal pressure. Is there a possiblity that im getting boost in my oil? 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD

I also have the knock sensor issue where my new knock sensor isn't reading. Yes i have CEL, yes i hard wired it, and yes i've changed the computer.

Sounds like you've got a few problems. Let's hit the mission critical ones first. :thumb:

Your 92 tsi uses an oil to antifreeze heat exchanger.

The filter squeezes it against the oil filter housing. If your filter came loose, it may be because the center bolt is backing out of the housing. I've seen a bunch of motors get damaged from this.

If this is the case, please get an oil cooler o-ring from the dealer. Remove the thru bolt, clean the filter housing and heat exchanger.

(Now is also a good time to replace the two coolant lines to the cooler, if they're spoongy/deterioirated. Just drain the cooling system, and do it, they like to leak/fail in the winter.) :)tease: end mini-rant...:shhh: )

Wipe your new o-ring with assembly lube or clean oil, and install it in the heat exchanger. Put a schosche of blue loc-tite on the threads of the heat exchanger thru bolt, and assemble, making sure the tab on the heat exchanger locates correctly on the oil filter housing. Torque to 29-33 foot pounds, and enjoy leak free piece of mind.

As far as the knocking goes, a little process of elimination will tell the tale.

Pull the plug wires one at a time, and listen for a change in the sound. If it goes away on one cylinder, that rod bearing may be damaged. If it just gets fainter, or two adjacent cylinders affect it the same way, it may be the main bearing between them.

If disabling the spark to each cylinder doesn't change it, and you can localise it to the rear of the motor, it may be the rear balance shaft bearing.

After a motor loses oil, has the filter housing leak, etc... there may be some consequences. If your motor is still making noise, you might want to drain the oil into a clean container and examine it carefully. You can stir it with a screwdriver, and shine a strong lite on it. If you see lots of sparklies, or a copperish tint, that's evidence that there's trouble brewing.

You can also cut your oil filter open and examine the filtering media. If there's a lot of silver or copper flakes in there, that's also a very bad sign.

Catching it now will substantially decrease the cost of repairing/rebuilding this motor.

Running it knocking could result in more serious issues.

Please keep us posted as to what you find. I've seen the "filter come loose" scenerio play out a few times. In all cases, a thorough examination payed great divedends.

well i just changed the pcv valve because i've heard from different places that a clogged one could build pressure, hence the oil dipstick comming up etc. The main bearrings are all fine. i think the oil pumps gone bad evidence on the bottom of the oil pan. My dads a mechanic and just a few minutes ago my dipstick shot up and blew oil every which way. he now says it has to be the turbo going bad. my question is, is this oil problem evidence of a turbo got bad?

The dipstick popping up is a sign that your crankcase is being pressurised. Generally, this is a sign of excessive blow-by past the rings.

Is the motor still knocking?

"Plumber's tape" is galvanized, perforated steel strapping used to hang pipe. If you're referring to Teflon tape, get that the hell away from your engine. It's excellent stuff for sealing off oil passages and blocking the pickup screen.
Replace the O-ring on your dipstick, or get a new dipstick from the dealer. You're blowing it out from ring leakage, probably from a tired motor. It's not boost fluid mixing into your oil.

Tightening your oil filter "good" has probably crushed your oil cooler.
