I was curious if anyone would know why my highbeams would stop working when i installed my boost gauge? The illumination is pulled from the dimmer switch like i've seen a couple threads about, but i have no highbeams left and when i try to turn my highbeams on my headunit shuts off? Could this be in part to grounding my gauge with the dimmer switch or just something else that i am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jerm

Sounds like you have it connected to the wrong dimmer switch. They mean the dash light intensity dimmer to connect the ground wire to (black/yellow wire), not the high/low beam switch. Connect the + wire to the taillight relay or the wire that supplies the dash lights (which is also the green/white on the dimmer switch)..

ok, its hooked up to the the intensity switch, like the little screw knob, not the headlight stuff. I only tapped two wires in and one was on the green/white and the other was on the center wire going to the switch which i belive was solid black with an occasional red stripe around it. Is that a good place to ground or should i just self tap into the metal behind the a-pillar?

ok went out and worked on it a bit more awhile ago, unhooked everything and the same problem persists, and the head unit will only stay on at idle (sometimes) i went from having 3-5lbs of boost and boost lag above 4500 rpm to 7-8lbs and no boost lag anymore since this problem showed up. I also had a check engine light come on after all illumination was unhooked that made my car sound like it was running on 3 cyls and then cleared out after a bit. Anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? I'm not even sure where to start now, seeing as i unhooked everything and the problem is still there... and now the car has decided to run completely right.

Okay... so i never figured out the check engine deal, but it has yet to show up again, as for the high beams and head unit... It seems that the regulator on my alternator decided to shoot the crap so i'm cranking WAY more voltage than i need so it smoked the filaments in my high beams and then makes my head unit shut off because of over voltage anything over idle.
