well i just got done changing my timing belt and i took it on a test drive to make sure everything was fine. while waiting at a stoplight the car died. so now im like wtf? i go to start it thinking it just freaked out and turned off but there was no power at all. nothing turned on so i just thought a battery terminal was loose. check them and nothing. walk home and bring a car to jump it and when i go to start it the starter is making a really bad crunching noise and the cam gears are turning the opposite way they are suppose to. and i see the motor fighting back and pushes the starter the other way on the compression stroke. not to mention i look over and my battery terminals decided to start a bbq without me while doing this.

so now my question is, what the hell could this be? a bad starter? some other wires? no fuses have blown its just acting really weird. and help is greatly appreciated.

Really your best bet would be to change the starter and see if it works.
Make sure your wires are correct not backwards
If that doesnt work trace your starter wires back and look for cuts/splices or anything weird.
I cant say i have ever heard of anything like this.Pretty weird

well i reaplaced the starter and its still making some really bad crunching noise. i belive it to be the flywheel now and that it appeared the starter was moving the opposite direction because it would slip on the flywheel and the motors compression would push it the opposite way when this happened.

so i guess my next move is to browse the classifieds for a nice lightweight flywheel :thumb:
