Okay, this is gonna be a long post, but bear with me

Heres some background
This spring i purchased a '92 tsi awd with a built tranny. The engine had detonated horribly due to bad tuning and a piston was melted. I was unable to come up with the cash to build up the engine i wanted, so early summer i purchased a '92 Laser RS turbo for $500. The reason it was so cheap was that the tranny was fragged. The flywheel had big gouges in it, the clutch had only the center section with no fiber material, and the pressure plate had a large chunk, (about 4 inches long) taken out of the contact area. The bellhousing also had a large chunk blown or ripped off it, but at the time i assumed that the block was still intact.

jump to present- today i was putting my 4wd tranny on the parts car engine. All was going well, until the tranny refused to line up right. i found the culprit. The little alignment tube/bolt thread was slightly bent. Upon further inspection, i realized that the piece was actually broken off.

So, now i have to make the descision of whether or not to just tighten the other 3 remaining bolts down extra tight and hope the tranny stays on, or tear the block down and have the piece brazed back on, or (dad's suggestion) just drill and tap 4 more holes in the area and make a custom bracket that the tranny can be bolted on too

Well, now you have the story, and any opinions/advice/other options would be very much appreciated

heres a pic of what i'm describing, so hopefully you can get a better idea

the tube you describe is a dow pin They are the main parts that hold the tranney to the block my suggestion would be to fix it and go with your dads advice your car will be down a little longer but it will be worth it in the long run...

Yeah, that's kinda what i was leaning toward, because i am kinda strapped for cash and it seemed like a cheap and easy fix, but i wanted to get some other opinions on the matter
