hey guys i was driving the car home yesterday and all of a sudden i started hearing a whining noise... particularly from a stop that got louder the faster i went. then all of i sudden i pulled up to a stop light, put it in first, and when i went to go the car just stalled so im like wtf? because ive never stalled the car in the year and a half i've had it. so i started it again, tried moving again, same thing. So i tried it a third time, but this time i left the car in neutral and let the clutch out very slowly... and damn the car started moving, wanted to die tho as if i started out in 3rd instead of 1st, so i gave it a little gas and just pulled into the nearest parking lot. i checked the clutch fluid and it was full, my friend got under the car with a flash light and said there was a little fluid leaking while i was pumping the clutch (engine off). then i put it in reverse (engine still off) and it didnt want to come back out, until my friend pushed the car foreward, then it went back into neutral. i didnt know what to do and i definatly wasnt leaving the car in that area so i just drove it home in third (my house was about 3 miles away). so basically its stuck in 3rd gear and i cant get it to disengage... the car was in NEUTRAL the whole way home, but it was actually in 3rd. i can tell by the engine rpm at the speed i was going... definatly 3rd.

Sorry about the length i just wanted to be very through for you guys.

thx for any help in advance.

The cable may have broken in the center. Did you have someone look in the engine bay while you try shifting to see if the linkage is moving at the trans. It could be stuck in 3rd and your trying to jam it into another gear at the same time.

I had the same Problem about a month ago it would lock up it the gears and wouldnt come out then if you did get it out it would only move i certian gears it ended up being the tranny. Sounds like you have the same problem. I went to a shop that did the used trannys from japan and got it installed for $900 after tax and everything and they got it done in 1 day I droped it off the night before picked it up the next day so that is an option hope this helped if you have somewhere that does those around you. Oh and it came with the transfer case as well. It also has a short warranty 3month 3000 mile so I thought that was a good deal that I would share with you and mine works great.

Good luck.

Transfer case.

its not the xfer case because i drove it home (about 3 miles) after it happened. i think i did find the problem though. i think its the pin inside the tranny that connects syncros to the shift linkage. i think that pin snapped. i know the clutch is fine because it will still grab and go... even tho its stuck in 3rd.

thx for the help

Well if it isn't that, I had the bracket holding the cables go loose on my shep tranny with the same results. I just put lock washers on and it's been fine since.
