I just installed a used engine in a car that has been sitting for 3+ years. Fuel pump was full of rust as well as the inside of the gas tank. I replaced the pump as the old one was dead. It had some gas inside it, maybe 1/4 tank, but I didn't drain it and now I wish I did I simply put in about 5gallons of 94octane. The problem is as soon as it warms up and I drive the car it pours out white smoke out the tailpipe. It doesn't do it if I just let it idle there. My first thought was the turbo was shot, I checked it and disconnected the water supply going in/out. I did a compression check and it's pretty much perfect. So far my diagnosis should eliminate turbo seal failure and head gasket problems. I am left to suspect the old gas that was in the car...This might be stretching it but the amount of water concentration is the gas is probably great judging from the piles of rust inside the gas tank, in turn making it puff out clouds of white smoke under load when it goes much richer than idle. Can anyone suggest what else the problem could be or how likely my bad gas theory is?
