Basically the guy told me that the clutch needed to be bled but it ran fine, you just had to push it all the way to the floor to get it to go in gear...I had no problems shifting other then that...no grinding/slipping etc...but today I went to take a short trip, was going to bleed it when i got back, and ended up stuck in the supermarket parking lot....Basically I put it into 1st to go and it just rev'd freely like it was in neutral....only thing it would do that I noticed..is when i presss the clutch fully down as hard as i can while it is in gear, it creeps forward (and no not rolling down a hill) like the car pulls slightly...but when i release the pedal it was like in neutral again...I have it at my shop now, but if anyone could give me a heads up on what i might expect??? Ive gotta find out how much this is going to cost, and stick it to the seller for misrepresenting the car...I was told it was fully driveable, just needed to be bled...

P.S. would have posted in the drivetrain forum but it said i didnt have that privilage or something along those lines...

This really does sound like the clutch needs to be bled. Hopefully the shop comes back with the same since it would make for a cheap fix and save you the trouble of dealing with the seller again.

I thought if you hydraulics gave out you would be left with a clutch that remains engaged...not the otherway around where i am like always disengaged? Also the pedal right now is very stiff...Anyway its at the shop I work at now...I Tow there, so they wont screw me over...

Along with bleeding the clutch fluid, could you try adjusting the clutch pedal so that it grabs higher up? If nothing else, it's a quick test to try before dropping down the transmission.

I'd like to say that turning the adjusting rod counter-clockwise raises the pedal engagement point, but don't quote me on that, I could be wrong...

How does the shifter itself feel when you put it into first with the clutch pedal on the floor? Does it notch right in to place, or is it grinding at all, or is it very loose and sloppy? You could do a quick visual check of the shift linkage where it mates to the transmission (remove the intake pipe to the turbo to get a good vantage point), have a friend modulate the shifter and see if anything looks out of place.

I don't know what the laws are in connecticut, but here in MI all private used car sales are "as-is" unless stated otherwise. If that's the case in Connecticut, you SOL and won't get a dime for the seller unless he's willing to pay it since there would be no legal action you could take.

It sounds like the clutch is dead indeed. The hydraulic system does not have to be bled unless it has been messed with, or is leaking. The clutch engagement wouldn't really change unless a new clutch was put in and even then it wouldn't make it as extreme as not engaging at all.

It seems a little extreme that the car would run/shift fine one moment, and then on the same day, be impossible to move. If the clutch is indeed dead, I would think he would have experienced a great deal of slipping before the car became totally inoperable. You can't see any fluid leaking from the transmission, can you? Either way, if you can't figure the problem through pedal adjustment or visual inspection of the linkage, clutch line, or master/slave cylinders, I guess your best bet would be to take off the bellhousing and poke around. Check the flywheel and clutch, the throw-out bearing, and clutch fork.

Well like i said...I think I said...the clutch pedal was stiff..and needed to be pushed really hard, and now they have it apart at the shop and basically the clutch fork broke andthe release bearing is all torn up...the pressure plate looks like is going to need to be replaced too...but on a good note the clutch disc itself looks to have a good amount of meat still on it...but will find out for sure tomorrow...
basically all that was told to me was "clutch needs to be re-bled since new master cyl install it is spongy but shifts fine"
of course i dont know HOW you get spungy from stiff but anyway not much I could do when i had already driving the (Too Many)___ miles to pick it up...
I figured ok, ive driving a car that had some air in the hydraulics and figured i could baby it home...hell i was on the highway 99% of the ride at night with no traffic...I couldnt have shifted through the gears more then 50 times and then it just gave out broke..whatever...
i got it through ebay..and was reading about material misrepresentation...so im going to see how that goes...
