I am trying to remove my stock exhaust and install an apexi n1 catback exhaust and a t-pros downpipe. The problem I have is removing the stock downpipe from the o2 sensor housing shown in the pic. I am using a thin walled deep socket, but the nut won't seem to budge. My cousin thinks that since the exhaust gets very hot, the screw might of welded to the downpipe. I'm not sure if this is true. Did any of you have this problem when you changed your exhaust? I need some advice on how to fix this problem. Thanks.

I second the PB blaster. Not everyone has access to sometime to apply heat with. If you've got it, great. Otherwise the PB blaster or liquid wrench will do the job great.

Could just turn on the motor, but they are right if PB cant break it then go boostin and come back jack it up and get it.....or have access to an impact gun?

Well I picked up the pb blaster, gave the bolts a good spray, waited a bit, warmed up the car, then tried to remove the bolts but it still won't budge. If I can't figure it out I might just take it to a muffler shop or something similar to have them loosen it. Any suggestions on what else I can do?

You need some heat man, like a torch or I know if you put it on an air gun they should eventually come off. Goodluck.

You should keep spraying them throughout the day, let the penetrating spray do its job. Give it a day or two and spray it every once and awhile. If you sprayed it and then started the car, you probably burned all the spray right off the exhaust. Use a long extension with a breaker bar, leverage does wonders!

def. with the pb blaster!!!! but when i used it i just sprayed it and let it sit for like 20 - 30 minutes and it broke free. just spray it tap the bolt with a hammer and spray it again, then it should break free.

hahahaha!!!! I just did that on friday and I am still soar today :thumb: . All I did was get a 3/4 wrench cause it was longer and just torqued on them till they came loose. Just takes a little time...

Well i'm back again...i've tried mostly every suggestion and still no progress. Every time I get under the car and try to remove the exhaust I get even more frustrated. I talked to my mechanic and he said he can remove them for me, but he said there is a chance that he will break the exhaust studs. He told me if he breaks them its not his fault and i'm the one that has to deal with it. Now i'm debating on whether I should take the risk and let him remove it, or keep trying to take them off myself. What do you guys think?

Did you try heating them up with a torch? Are you pb blastering them everyday throughout the day? Are you using a breaker bar? The only thing I can think of now is portable compressor. They have portable tanks that you can buy and hook up to a compressor, you pump them up with compressed air and then take just the tank to where you need it and leave the compressor behind. Borrow an impact wrench with some long extensions and tap the trigger on the wrench, don't hold it down. Keep tapping till it breaks loose. As far as broken broken studs go, thats a chance your going to have to take.

I agree, I used liquid wrench for a day or two and then heated it up with a torch and got it off with an impact wrench. If you don't have access to a torch just go to a local welding shop and offer them a few bucks to use a torch. Good Luck!

With PB blaster and heat, I got mine loose with a regular 3/8" drive ratchet.
That is saying something since I have a 95 and its a Utah car. PB blaster is amazing. But I attribute most of the ease to heat.

Alright guys i finally got the exhaust off (as you can tell it takes me along time to get stuff done only because of school) but anyways I ran into another little problem. I'm trying to remove the downpipe bracket, and I was able to get the first two off but I can't get the third one up top because there is not enough room to get the socket in there. The bolt on the o2 housing is in the way. How can I get this off?

Here's a pic to show you guys

What are you taking the bracket off for anyways? You can just leave it there and not bolt the downpipe into it to make things a little easier.
