installed aftermarket intake now service engine soon light is on

i just got a 99 gst eclipse spyder, its only got 36000 miles on it and it was garage kept, i just installed an after market intake, and took three out of the five honey combs in the mass air flow sensor out, i was told not to take out the two center ones, and the day after ....my service engine soon light pops on, any ideas as too why,

I don't think you should have removed any of those honeycombs. I can't imagine a noticeable increase in performance by doing this.

Try to reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20 seconds. See if that helps. I would also try putting back what you took out.

Put the honey combs back in! You dont need to remove them AT ALL. Then double check and make sure that all the vaccume lines coming out of the intake are installed in the right location. Then verify that the recirculating tube is installed. (Rubber tube going from the bypass valve to the intake pipe itself)

also make sure that your MAS connector is firmly and securly plugged back in.

yea, the honey combs will do it. Put those in and it may go away by itself, or unplug your battery like a previous poster said.

Honey combs back in, recirculate, make sure the MAS plug is plugged in. Reset the ECU, you can even just pull up the yellow fuse on the fuse box for a couple of secs. Put it back then drive and see if light comes on again.

You dont take out any honeycombs unless you have some kind of fuel/engine management. Even then theres no reason to do it.

You don't have a "Service Engine Soon" light. Mommy's not there to scold you into giving the dealer more money.

You have a Check Engine light, which will illuminate when the ECU has gotten an out-of-range return from one of the sensors it monitors.

does it have an O2 elimination ? if so that could be the reason why the check engine light is on

also BISS might need adjustment if you cant find anything else wrong
