Squeeking after I shut the car off. Any ideas?

Cambridge,
Hi there, first post here. I've been reading through the forums and haven't found anyone who has had this problem.

Just a few days ago I changed my valve cover on my 92 TSi AWD, and that night I was out driving and put around 300km on the car. When I got home everything was good; I let the car idle as usual and then shut it off. When the car shut off though I heard a bit of squeeking from just behind the timing belt area as the engine spun down to a stop. I have had the timing belt and waterpump done recently, and this noise just kind of popped up out of no where.

To make a long story short, everytime I turn the car off I hear the squeeking noise just as the engine and accessories stop spinning. I've never heard this problem before, and my A/C belt doesn't exist anymore so I'm absolutely stumped.

Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!

Is your hood open when you hear the squeeking, what I mean is how loud is it? Is it possible that you just never noticed the squeeking before? I know on my car there is a slight squeek when the engine shuts down, but you can only hear it when the hood is open and your standing next to the engine.

Is it possible you are hearing your harmonic balancer starting to go bad, or some kind of belt squeal? My belts used to squeal at lower RPM's like on startup and when I would shut the car off. It was a mix between the belts and the pulley going bad. Check the tension on your belts, and then take something you can use to mark on your harmonic balancer with, and make a line from the center to the outside, and after driving it for a day or two check and see if the lines still match up.

Well, I've driven the car for 4 years now and it's definately a "new" noise to add to the list :)

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to follow these suggestions and see what I come up with. I noticed tonight that it doesn't happen all the time either. Which is weird.
