Been working on my friends 95 gst, its got a 7-bolt evo 3 motor from japan Its the same as a 94 talon tsi fwd i believe...

A friend of mine told me to cut the rear balance shaft into a stub, which we did, and bolted it up, and we removed the balance shaft belt, and now the motor leaks oil like crazy at the front balance shaft..

the damn shaft will move in and out of the front cover so i think I willhave to get the damn eliminator kit..

Could something on the timing cover be broken causing the balance shaft to go IN and out?

and the big question

if i get the elim. kit, can i replace the blockoff bearing without having to take the damn engine and crank out??? ive been told this 7-bolt 4g63 is the same as a 94 talon tsi

will i need to just blockoff the front bearing??

Please give me some assistance.

It sounds like you messed up on one of two things. Did you put a plug (a freeze plug or the specific Mitsu. plug) where the front balance balance shaft sprocket used to be? You also need to put a bolt where the balance shaft tensioner pulley was. It needs to be short enough to seal on the cover and you need to have a washer or something on there along with RTV to seal it. As for the pump moving in and out??? Did you put the oil pump gear back onto the balance shaft stub?? Thats all I could think of that would allow it to move back and forth.

Why didn't you just knock the bearing out, turn it and reinstall it in the front shaft hole instead? Did you at least put it back on with the sprocket attached to it?

The rear shaft is oiled through the shaft itself, so the hole must either be plugged or have the Mirage stubby shaft installed. If not, you will be killing your oil pressure.

Follow the links above for further instructions.

As I posted above, the rear shaft is oiled through the shaft itself, so the bearings can stay in the block with no ill affects. Its the FRONT shaft that is oiled through the block. You can either block those off (pain in the ass with the motor in the car) or leave the front shaft in there (with no belt connected) to block off the oil passages. I like to shim the front balance shaft sprocket with washers so it tightens against the front case so it can't move around.

You must either use the $12 stubby shaft for the rear, or cut the counter weights off of yours and weld the hole shut.

I've done the job just fine with the motor in the car doing it my way.

ok well i did exactly waht u said but i left the damn shaft in the motor and it moves in and out, is there something on the plate that needs to be replaced to keep the damn balane shaft from moving in and out???
