I have a 98 eclipse RS with a 420a n/t. I recently had a spec stage 2 clutch put in my eclipse and it ran great. then I was going to work and I went to pass someone, shifted down and then went to shift in to 5th and hit third engine was revved over 9000rpms and then I started having vibration problems. The belts flew off. the car runs but then it vibrates excessively. it looks like it is coming from the bellhousing. checked out the harmonic balancer and it looked good. bolts on flywheel are tight. vibration is also felt through the clutch pedal. I have had people tell me that the crank or a rod is bent. I am trying to determine which end to start at. If anyone has any good input please let me know.

Well in theory if a vibration is caused by an engine it would cause the vibration in relation to engine speed reguardless if the vehicle is moving or not. Now if the tranny is the cause, it should only vibrate while in use (vehicle moving).

Thats why I asked :sneaky:

I too have the vibration, the spec stage 2, and 420a. I have had this clutch for over 2 years and it has always vibrated or chatter like thing during acceleration. Unless I really get on it.

it vibrates all the time. i havent been driving it havent been driving it because i dont want anything else to get messed up. i took it out for a drive one day and when i get on it it chatters and vibrates even worse. around 2k rpms it smooths out and 3k it gets bad. while stopped i can rev the engine and the car will try to move forward with it in gear and the clutch depressed

I don't know if this will help you not, but this is a common problem with ACT clutches on the turbo cars when we don't shim the pivot ball with a washer. Mine was dealer installed and if I rev to and hold at 6K to launch, it will also pull the car forward. I know your clutch is modular, but if it's possible, I would try a pivot ball shim and see if it helps you since it almost sounds like the clutch engagement may be set too high,

Can you adjust the engagement point on an N/T modular clutch?

Hope this gets you in the ballpark,

Andy
