spark plug poped out of head

While driving the car started to sound like it was running on 3 cylinders. I opened the hood and discovered the sparkplug wedged with the torn plugwire sticking out of the cylinder canal. The plug looks like it was hit because the gap was all the way closed.

I tried to place a new plug, but it appears the thread is stripped. Now... What could have caused this?

Oddly enough, my mechanic was warning me about this, when I was doing a plug read. Improper tightening of the spark plug on installation. Not sure what would cause the flattened terminal, aside from possibly a nasty bit of detonation...

Could do it, actually. Plug not in snug enough, hit a bit of bad gas under boost, *pop*.

In any case, you'll have to get the spark plug well helicoiled.

this happened a couple of times on the ford box trucks I drive @ work you can buy the helicoils @ any parts store if you want to try to do it yourself the spark plug could have been damaged by shooting out but it sounds like you may have a more serious problem i would consider looking at the piston with a pen flashlight

Sounds like the piston contacted it.
