hey everyone!..got a few problems...

before..car was completely stock..90 tsi..just bought it
rebuilt head..junkyard turbo with no in and out play..little side to side..never blew any smoke..wasnt dripping any oil from anywhere

now..after cleaning the intercooler and pipes/hoses..using mineral spirits..
manual boost controller set at 12psi-15psi..
free maf hack

the exhaust only smokes blue AFTER high boost..for about 20 seconds. its gone on idle..if set at 10psi..it doesnt smoke under boost at all..parked it..saw some oil dripping from under the turbo..right where the clamp is on the middle of the turbo..

what should i check now? im thinking its the turbo cause it only happened when i upped the boost..who knows what condition that turbo was in from the graveyard...maybe i blew the oil seals from upping the boost? is it just the mineral spirits from the intercooler? not dry yet? i left it to dry for a day..

CONFUSED...any help would be grateful

First check the leak. Might be something loose. or need new washer/gasket...
After you fix that check the upper intercooler pipe and tell me if there is oil in it.
BTW, have you done a boost leak?

MAybe the rebuild head has a leak in the valves.... do a leakdown test...

well..after taking out the intake pipe..found real little oil..but..alot of metal shavings on the rubber intake tube..not good!..spinning the turbine..seems kinda tight..no in out play but the side play is just enough to scrape the side of the housing..

I was talking about the intercooler pipe after the turbo. not the intake pipe. But, after you tell me about the shaving metal in the intake pipe you better remplace that turbo... It must be shaking really bad to hit the inside of the turbo. Remplace and let us know.....

yea..i checked that already..there was oil in the lower cooler pipe/hose...like about 2-3 drips..

ive got an extrra 14b id sell cheap, also check ## washer i had 1 that was a lil bit to be on and it leaked bad, but once i got the new one on ive had no problems!

From my understanding of your post, you're only seeing blue smoke after you reach full boost. At idle you are not seeing smoke, and during normal driving you're not seeing smoke. Is this correct?
Things to check:
PCV valve. It's a 2 dollar fix that alot of times gets over looked. You may have one that is going bad.
Valve seals. Common problem. They get old, they leak.
Piston oil rings. Once again, common problem.

You checked for oil in your lower intercooler pipe and said there was only a couple drips which would tells us that the turbo's oil seals aren't bad yet. A drip or two is normal.

I would recommend running a compression test and a leak down test. They will help narrow down the problem.

Yep, something like that is what I thought.... (read my post above.)

BTW did you read this part he wrote?

Yes. I read that. It's possible for the turbine the scrape the house and not leak oil though. Not for long, but it's possible. Being that he has an oil burning problem though, he needs to find the source of that problem first. The car can run without a turbo, it cannot run without oil. So I would recommend finding the source of the oil issue, and then tackling the turbo issue.

well..i think compression is ok..considering if it were bad..it would smoke all the time..even at idle..if the piston rings are bad..i would have smoke all the time..if the valve stem seals are bad..it would smoke all the time too..especially in the mornings after sitting...plus..the head was redone with new stem seals..pcv valve is ok..checked that already....like i said..10psi..stock boost..i have no smoke..only after like 12-15 psi..i might just do a compression test for the hell of it..but i know with bad/leaking compression..it would run like crap..this car idles/revs..perfect..surprising me..

Your compression can be bad and your car will still drive normally. Don't ever assume things are okay with these cars. Always always always check. I speak from experience.
I would still go and buy a brand new OEM pcv valve and replace it, just for the piece of mind.
Honestly, it's starting to sound like a excessive crankcase pressure problem to me.

ok..compression test is done..150-155 across the board..im suspecting the turbo for sure..
dont want to drive it anymore until i have another turbo..all i need now is metal chunks from the turbo all inside the motor
