Hey guys,
I need some help with this one. Right now my clutch pedal feels very spongey. But there is about a full inch of free play and from the floor the top of the pedal is only 6 inches. But my biggest issue is that i only need to push the pedal in about 1.5inches, and it will pull out of gear. and when i am starting in 1st gear from a stop the clutch wont grab the gear until the pedal is literally almost all the way up. so basically i need to know if my clutch is going bad or if its just way out of adjustment, or if the pedal is out of adjustment, or the line needs to be bled, or if the slave cylinder is going on me. my car does not slip out of gear when driving. If any one has any suggestions it would be most helpful. and if anyone in wisconsin can help me, i'd appreciate it.

just to let you know, this is a 1990 awd talon with cruise control

thanks for the space
ryan

The only way the slave cylinder will go bad really, is the seal being messed up in it. That will cause you to leak fluid inside of the rubber boot. So if your fluid is where it's supposed to be in the reservoir, the best bet would be to bleed your clutch. :thumb:

If it feels spongey, bleed the clutch. There might be air in the system.

Here is some more info, Scoll down to clutch adjustment - http://www.roadraceengineering.com/clutchandflywheeltech.htm

Most definitely. I had this same issue after a clutch replacement a while ago, and my brand new clutch was fried by the time I got home  , and it was due to my clutch not being bled.

The link that was added is awesome, after some legal threats, and getting the re-work and a new clutch at their expense, I did that same link. It's a painless procedure, and I'd suggest that anyone does this after a clutch change. :thumb:

Check the master & slave for leaks & make sure the system is bleed correctly. If all this looks good then its probably just out of adjustment. The RRE link provided above has lots of good info & will tell you how to adjust it properly. One other thing check the pedal assembly for wear as well, might need to get it welded up or replaced.

Air in the system causes lost of pressure which usually leads to engaging low or not at all, high engagement usually points to mater rod adjustment. Use the RRE link as reference, loosen the lock nut and rotate the push rod, 1/2 turn at a time, CCW (towards the rear of the car) until the engagement point is at about 1 inch from the floor.
