I own a 90 Eclipse GS and she's using oil like crazy. I have installed a rebuilt turbo and rebuilt head with all new gaskets. She seems to blow a lot of smoke on initial 1st gear acceleration if I rev hard enough to spool the turbo. The rings were okay when I installed the rebuilt head. I'm stumped. I added some oil system Gunk to see if the usage would stop and it slowed for a few days. Any ideas?

Welcome to the board!:thumb:

A few questions for you, as I think people need more information to diagnose your problem.

Who rebuilt the turbo and head, and, Why?

How did you test the rings? Smoking under boost could indicate weak rings.

How did the bores look?

Did you do a compression test?

Have you cleaned the pcv valve?

Do you have any oil leaks?

And, ~ how many miles per quart? Time isn't as good an indicator of consumption as mileage.

its either 3 things turbo valve seals or pistons//could be rings or a cracked piston cly walls have scrathes..if u say the head and turbo were replaced then its most likey ## bottom end

I'm lead to believe the problem is still the turbo. Before you installed it did you check for shaft play in all directions. Of course there should be none but by the way you said in first gear if you rev hard enough to spool(boost) you get smoke.

Valve seals are a common cause of smoking especially in a car as old as this one, but it's generally after the car sits at idle for an extended period of time(based on how worn the seals are) or after the car has rested overnight.(In this case it's usually a brief puff)

As for pistons and the cylinder wall, I would disagree here because that would cause the car to smoke alot more often.

As I stated, for what it's worth, I'm leaning more towards bad turbo rebuild.:notgood:
