I have a 92 eclipse GS with the NA 4G63 in it.The car was sitting for 3 years before I bought it and I was told the ECU was shot.

I've replaced the ECU and drained the old gas, redone the ripped apart wiring harness that the previous mechanic had ripped apart tying to diagnose the problem, got everything back where it should be but its not wanting to fire up.

There is no fuel in the return line...that is dry.It will also not pull any fuel from a small can of gas when connected to the intake manifold.

This is the first 4G63 I've owned but when I took the upper t-belt cover off and pushed the belt down between the sprockets,it created slack in the belt that did not go away when I took my hand off.

I'm guessing that the timing belt has jumped a few teeth and somethings not pushing fuel to the rail because of it,that sound right to anyone?

How off does the timing have to be to make the car not start?

Before replacing the ECU I had no fuel or spark, now I can hear the pump come on but still nothing in the fuel lines.

One other thought was...maybe I just didn't put enough fuel in the tank for the pump to pick it up? I put a ittle over a gallon in the drained tank and the gas light is still on in the car.I can add more gas but it still has no vac. which is why I was thinkin jumped timing.

Any help would be appreciated,The plan now is to just reset all the timing marks and check the tensioner...replace whats needed and see if it helps.

Not sure how often the timing marks on the cam sprockets should line up but they don't look like they can...when one is at say 9 0'clock the other is around 2 0'clock,not 3 where I think it should be.

Well first I would take the t-belt cover off and make sure everything is good, and in its proper place before trying to start.then I would checkto make sure their are no plugs in the fuel line and that the pump is working properly. If everything is good then do a compression test to make sure you have compression. But definately check the fuel sys good because their should be fuel in the return line. Is their fuel in the cylinders when you pull the plus?
Goodluck

Everything under the timing cover except probably the tensioner is good,I've turned the engine over 50 times or so trying to start it and theres no bent valves or anything causing resistance when it turns over.

What would cause fuel not to get to the rail?

I'll replace the filter and see if maybe that is clogged or something.

I guess my main question would be if the timing is offf a few teeth will that prevent fuel from getting to the rail?

I'm gonna go today and take the timing covers off but I'm wondering if I'm on the right track thinkin its the timing. If anyone else has any thoughts on the situation or any ideas on other things to check that would be great.
